fuelled by technological innovations What is innovation?

• The word ‘innovation’ comes from the Latin, innovare, and is

all about change.

• Perhaps a more helpful definition of innovation is:

‘the process of creating value from ideas’

Innovation is not a single action but a total process of interrelated

sub processes. It is not just the conception of a new idea, nor
the invention of a new device, nor the development of a new market.
The process is all these things acting in an integrated fashion . . . .

Ø The first appearance in a dictionary was 1755 as ”Innovation: change by the

Ø Before the 18th century innovation was mainly considered a negative. It
represented change, but the church and the government wanted stability.
Ø The major change came with the French revolution aler which change began to be

Ø Soon innovations such as the steam engine, the railroad, and the telephone was

Regulation required for e-scooters

Regulation required for e-scooters

At present electric scooters in the UK are not legal in the UK cycle
lanes. Whereas in France, Germany and Spain they are legal. E-
scooters cost between £300 and £1,500 and they typically have a
top speed between 15 and 24mph. Manufacturers are waiting for
regulators in the UK to decide on the regulations necessary to
make these scooters able to use UK cycle lanes. Across Europe
there are concerns about the increasing number of accidents
involving e-scooters travelling at high speed and colliding with
pedestrians. This is the main reason why UK regulators have been
cautious.
