Each year I re lect on my
goals for the school year
prior to the beginning of
the academic year. I chose
1-2 speci ic goals that I
would like to focus on.
This year I want to focus
heavily on my students'
social emotional needs
due to the isolation that
students expressed. I want
to focus speci ically on
introducing play into my
lessons and fostering
social interactions. During
CSTP 6: Developing as a Professional Educator
out beginning of year PD I
shared these goals with
my colleagues and asked
for advice. In addition we
set a goal for our
department to focus on
vocabulary acquisition.
Finally, our school doesn't
have a break room so we
don’t get much time to
build personal
connections with our
team. In addition, last year
several teachers retired or
moved (we have 6 new
teachers this year out of
16 teachers total). I
launched a Sunshine Club
to help foster personal
relationships and offer
support to new teachers.
9/25/21

I have continued to work

with teachers to try and
improve vocabulary
acquisition, I have been
doing well with the
sunshine club and I have
lead serval PDs on a
variety of different topics
including PBIS, Edgenuity,
Sunshine Club, Team
Building and Taling

This year I have attended a

PD on grading the CASSP
tests, and I have facilitated
training on Talking Points
and No Red Ink. I have
CSTP 6: Developing as a Professional Educator
also been using data from
the PBIS Rewards App to
help motivate and create
buy-in from staff. I have
also asked to go to a PD
for myself and the other
English teachers at the UCI
Writing Conference which
is a full-day PD with
speakers including Gholdy
Muhamad. 11/22/2022

After going to the

conference and attending a
seminar on environmental
change through the
language arts curriculum I
have been re lecting upon
how to employ an
environmentally
appropriate curriculum
well lesson to my
curriculum. I learned a lot
about environmental
racism and I would like to
disseminate this
information to my
students. the area that our
school is in is heavily
mixed with very
high-income and very
low-income students so I
want to make this
culturally appropriate for
all students. 3/20/2023

parents and members of
the community. We had
our irst Home sports

attended. 5/10/2022
I have been using Talking
Points in my classroom
and it has proven useful. I
did a PD at the beginning
of the year so that other
teachers can use the
platform. I attend many of
the school events
including Homecoming
and Prom. I am one of the
teachers that students can
rely on to help out when
they are doing club
activities. In additionI am
the facilitator for the
Anti-Reading Book Club
and we went on our irst

raised enough money to
give each member $20 to

nice. 11/25/2022

do in my class is get their
Los Angeles Public

get the card I have them
search and add 5 books to
their wish lists and
borrow or place 1 book on

After our Personal

Narrative unit we began
reading The Tortilla

I am contunitune to
promote the use of the
public library card and I
am working on doing a
ield trip to our local
library the irst month of
school. I have also
coupled with the After
school program, Think
Together to plan a ield
trip to YALL West next
year. This will give over
40 students the
CSTP 6: Developing as a Professional Educator
opportunity to visit a
literary fair. 5/10/2022
This year I can’t teach the
Tortilla Curtain because of
an offensive word in the
story. I have adjusted my
curriculum, I haven’t
found a new novel to teach
the honors students but I
am using the textbook to
ill in the gaps where the
book was. I feel like this is
evidence of my ability to
change and grow as my
students and society need
me to. 11/25/2022

I am a strong believer in modeling. I re lect upon my
sanctions and focus on creating strong personal
interactions with students and staff that models the
strong citizens that I want to see graduating from my
school. I think that one of the greatest challenges to
maintaining motivation during our online learning over
the past year. I was very aware of my students’ needs
and focused on creating the most positive learning
environment that I could. I am currently on the
leadership team at my school. I have worked with
several new teachers checking in and offering support. I
have a strong work ethic and a strong sense of integrity
in general. I need to work on making sure that I am also
taking care of myself while managing student and staff
needs. I commute about 1.5 hours to work each
morning and I have routines that are great for my
emotional health during this time (jamming to music in
the morning and listening to audiobooks on the way
home) but I’ve noticed recently that I am ignoring my
physical needs. I get to school fairly early and I have
time, but I haven’t utilized the time to stretch after the
long drive. I need to take the time to do that especially
after the long hiatus from driving. 9/25/21

I have not done as well with my self care this semester.

I have been throwing myself into my work due to some
stress and personal things that I have been having
issues with. I have been keeping up with my walking
but I haven’t been hitting my goal. I have taken two days
off this semester to work on school work for this
program. Which was very good. Usually I am too afraid
to leave my students. Sunshine club is doing well
keeping connections with the staff but everyone is
feeling the need for summer break strongly. I am
CSTP 6: Developing as a Professional Educator
looking forward to next year and I am going to take a
few days this summer to drive to the beach with my dog
and have “me time”. I am also crushing my reading goal
of 60 books this year. I am already on 41. :) 5/10/2022

I think that this time of year is easy for all teachers to

get a little tired. So at this time of year, I try to double
down on PBIS. If we're feeling run down the students are
probably feeling run down as well. so this is the perfect
time to bring out games and fun activities whenever
possible. I also think that Self-care is important during
this time because what we portray to our students also
comes back to us. So I often have students do more
re lective writing and listen to meditation videos.
