The Warhammer 40,000 universe is a dark dystopian future created by Games Workshop

as the setting for their popular tabletop wargame. In the 41st millennium, humanity
is engulfed in a vast galactic war. The Imperium of Man is besieged on all sides by
aliens, heretics, and daemons.

The Imperium is led by the immortal Emperor of Mankind, who sits immobile on the
Golden Throne and acts as a psychic beacon keeping the forces of Chaos at bay. His
armies of genetically-engineered Space Marines, mighty war machines, and countless
human soldiers wage a constant war for humanity's survival against all manner of
threats.

Chief among them are the traitor legions of Chaos Space Marines, corrupted by the
Chaos Gods and seeking to overthrow the Emperor. The parasitic Tyranid hive fleets
descend from beyond the galaxy to devour all life. The technologically-advanced but
morally ambiguous Aeldari seek to defend their ancient empire from both humanity
and Chaos. The savage Orks spread across the stars, living only for battle and
conquest. And the mysterious Necrons have begun awakening from beneath their tomb
worlds, possessing vastly powerful weapons and an unknown purpose.

This is a universe of constant, unending war in which humanity's future is

uncertain. There are only the enemies surrounding them and the determination to
survive at all costs. Such is the dark future of Warhammer 40,000.
