Statistics 11 – Reviewer Term 1 (Finals)

(60 pts. possible)

Problem: Justin, a young entrepreneur, established a business that sells tote bags. He mostly
struggles in packing orders.
Details:
 If 5 tote bags were sold, he spends 15 minutes and gives him a probability of 30%.
 If 10 tote bags were sold, he spends 30 minutes and gives him a probability of 50%
 If 15 tote bags were sold, he spends 45 minutes and gives him a probability of 15%.
 If 20 tote bags were sold, he spends 60 minutes and gives him a probability of 5%.

Requirement #1: Find the expected value of the amount of time Justin spends in packing orders.
(5 pts.)

Requirement #2: Find the Mean, Standard Deviation and Variance of the problem. (5 pts.)

Requirement #3: (8 pts.) With the Mean and Standard Deviation you have computed, Illustrate
the problem’s Normal Distribution Sketch, and answer the following questions:
 The range of values of X which lies within one Standard Deviation.
 The lowest value of X which lies at least two standard deviations above the mean.
 The highest value of X which falls at least three standard deviations below the mean.

Requirement #4: With the Normal Distribution Sketch you’ve created, convert it to its
Standard Normal Distribution and show the formula in converting. (7 pts.)

Requirement #5: Find the proportions of the problem based on the data you have above. Show
your solution. (10 pts.) (Meaning, this is still under Justin’s problem, so the Mean and Standard
Deviation you will use is still the same as to what you have use in the previous problems.)

 What is the proportion that Justin would spend less than 25 minutes in packing the
order?
 What is the proportion that Justin would spend more than 40 minutes in packing
orders?
 What is the proportion that Justin would spend packing orders in between 30 minutes
and 50 minutes?
 How many orders would you expect Justin to finish less than 30 minutes, if there are 77
orders?

Additional Problem: Justin wants to improve his business and expand it to greatest way
possible. His target consumers were students ranging 16-25 years old, studying within schools
and university in Malabon City.

Requirement #6: Overall, there are 1,700 population size based on his criteria with a confidence
level of 90%. Using simple random technique, how many youths should be there in his sample?
Discuss the steps needed. (10 pts.)

Requirement #7: This time, Justin want to try having a sample of 700 students from schools
within Malabon City, and he wants that each school will be appropriately represented. Stated
below are the percentages of each school & university’s population
 International State College of the Philippines – Malabon Campus (ISCP-MC): 35%
 Malabon State College (MSC): 25%
 Malabon National High (MNH): 17%
 A’tin International Academy of Malabon (AIAM): 23%
How many students should he have from every school and university? (5 pts.)
