Ohm’s Law

1. Suppose you were to build this circuit and take measurements of current through the resistor
and voltage across the resistor:

Recording these numerical values in a table, the results look something like this:
Current (A) Voltage (A)
0.22 0.66
0.47 1.42
0.85 2.54
1.05 3.16
1.50 4.51
1.80 5.41
2.00 5.99
2.51 7.49

Plot these figures on the following graph: [1]

a. What mathematical relationship do you see between voltage and current in this simple
circuit? [1]

b. Calculate the resistance of that circuits [2]

2. Suppose an electric current of 1.5 microamps (1.5 μA) were to go through a resistance of 2.3
mega-ohms (2.3 MΩ). How much voltage would be “dropped” across this resistance? Show
your work in calculating the answer. [2]

3. Explain, step by step, how to calculate the amount of current (I) that will go through the
resistor in this circuit. [2]

4. The resistance od a car headlight is 15 Ω. If there is a current of 0.8 A through the headlight,
what is the voltage across the headlight? [2]
