Airport Security
Identify various security measures applied at Modern Airports to safeguard the Civil Aviation
Assets.
From the ancient era until the 1960s, airport security was a normal issue where airports only needed
civilian policies to deal with predictable crimes like breaking, vandalism, pickpocketing, and theft.

But in the modern world, there are strategies and methods in place often used to protect passengers,
personnel, airplanes, and airport assets from inadvertent harm, criminality, terrorist acts, and other
dangers that are also referred to as airport security. Airports are the most safeguarded and secure
places across countries globally since many people pass through each airport on a daily basis.

As a result, in all airports, many security systems are put into place across all corners. This short report
will encapsulate different types of security measures across airports and how security has evolved from
the past to the modern era.

The most recognized security system used in airports is passenger pre-board screening. Since passenger
boarding can cause commotion and security issues, the airport has passenger access control systems to
guide them where necessary.

The movement of vehicles from one location to another needs access, and since not all vehicles are
allowed, airports have put security bollards into place.

Ever since the International Civil Aviation Organization saw increased criminal activity in the airports, it
gave recommendations for security enforcement throughout the airports.

Taking the ICAO measures into consideration, airports started with passenger screening, went ahead to
hold bagging screening, and later adopted all other measures written in ICAO Security Manual, Doc
8973/5.

Baggage Screening

There are many more security systems put into place across all corners of an airport but the
aforementioned are the most vital measures to ensure general public security.
