Eight Gate table (d6)
The gate hasn’t fully formed yet. You arrived in time! As you
approach the place to perform a ritual and seal the Gate, roll on
1- the Gate Guardian table. You will have to defeat that creature to
3 seal the Gate. However, as the creature is weak, all your attacks
will be at +1. If you kill the creature, you automatically seal the
Gate. You do not need to use the Gate Arcane Skill.
The Gate is opening - right NOW! Perform a L7 Occultism roll. Add
+1 if you have the Gate Skill and +2 if you have it at the Expert
level. You need to use at least 1 candle in the process. On a
success, you close the Gate and complete the mission. You may
attempt this multiple times. Every time you fail, you must roll a 1
in 6 chance that a random monster from the Gate Guardian table
4- will attack you (acting first). If this happens, you must deal with
5 the creature and then attempt the ritual again. At any moment,
you may decide to flee with a successful Escape roll, but this will
abort the mission and have consequences in the campaign. Every
time you fail the ritual, the chance of the Gate Guardian attacking
you increases by 1 in 6. So the second time it is a 2 in 6, the third
time is a 3 in 6, and so on. Killing a Gate Guardian resets this
chance to 1 in 6.
The Gate is open! Two random Gate Guardians from the Gate
Guardian table attack you. If you roll the same monster twice,
reroll until you select a different monster. You must kill both
before you can seal the gate. Sealing the Gate requires spending
6
1 Clue, 6 candles. You must have a holy book available and
perform a L5 Will roll as explained under the Gate Arcane Skill. If
you do not have the requisites, you may return here later, but if
you do so, the Gate will have generated two new guardians.

Closing the Eight Gate successfully gives you 2 XP for completing

yoir mission, plus of course XP for any creatures defeated in the
process.

Gate Guardian table (d6)
The Floating Eye. L6 demon, 4 Life, damage 1. At the beginning of
every turn, until you manage to avert your eyes from the demon
(which requires a L5 Will save) you must perform an L4 Strength roll
or lose 1 Life) When you manage to avert your eyes, you must fight

at -1. If your Attack roll is a 1, you accidentally look at the eye and
you must start the process (rolling to avert your eyes etc) again. If
the Floating Eye kills you, your two eyes will become two additional
Floating Eyes, with 2 Life each, that will haunt the current location.
The Headless. L5 demon, 6 Life, damage 2. Every time this large
headless body is damaged, roll d6. On a 1 or 2, the attack passes
2
through the creature’s rotting flesh and deals no damage. Explosive
attacks and hits from enchanted weapons ignore this effect.
The Gaunt Revenant. L5 demon, 5 Life, 1 damage. This glowing
skeleton is immune to attacks from bullets. Once killed, its skull may
3 be fashioned into a candle holder, effectively reducing the number
of candles to be used in a ritual by 1. No more than one candle
holder may be used at the same time.
The Keeper of the Key. L4 demon, 8 Life, 1 damage. This robed,
misshapen humanoid holds an enchanted key. If you take the key,
4 you automatically lose 1 Sanity, but you may reroll any result on this
table and you will get +1 to all Defense rolls against Gate Guardians
as long as you keep the key.
The Writhing Mass. L3 demon, 12 Life, 1 damage. Any Defense roll
of 1 means that the writhing mass has engulfed you, forcing you to
5
roll on the injury table. If you defeat this thing, you will find 2 random
items (roll twice on the Useful Stuff table) in its body.
The Raven-Headed Lady. L4 demon, 6 Life, 1 damage. She
appears as a tall, gaunt woman with a large raven’s head. If she is
not killed within 3 turns, she will haunt you. Every time you find a
6
Clue in the game, you must also make a L4 Will roll or lose 1
Sanity. To break this curse, you must successfully use the
Exorcism Arcane Skill against the Lady’s Level.
Defeating a Gate Guardian gives 2 XP, or 3 XP if it implies the closing
of a Gate.
