Blood brothers

The story Blood brothers by John Wichham,Is a story about two twin brothers.They both have
very different personalities.The only thing these brothers seem to have in common is that they
are related by blood,making them blood brothers.There is a rising conflict between Paul and his
twin Benjy..Paul is very envious of his brother.Paul wishes he could be more like him and is
jealous of his carefree and fearless personality. Paul is an introverted and very reflective person.
He likes to reflect on his relationship with his brother.This is the cause of Pual believing his
brother may think he is more superior than him.

Paul and Benjy have a very complex sibling relationship.Paul hates his twin brother he feels
inferior to him.Paul is conflicted with his feelings, he is very envious of him but at the sametime,
he wants nothing more than his brothers affection.Benjy is completely oblivious to his brothers
feelings.

The story portrays Paul as a very fearful person compared to his easy going brother.There are
many scenes in the story highlighting Paul's fearful attitude. There were instances where he
would cling onto his father's hand. He was very afraid of walking at night with his family.He
thought the casuarina trees,blowing in the wind, sounded like the whispers of ghosts. He clung to
his father at that moment, but his brother Benjy seemed to be unphased about the matter. He was
unafraid and danced along the road, while flaunting his ability to whistle at Paul.

The story hints that Paul may be afraid of expressing his true feelings for his brother, because
he may feel like Benjy will reject his feelings.Paul is also too afraid to stand up for himself
when he feels like Benjy is mocking Him. The scene where the two brothers were at Mac shop
together. Paul suddenly attacks his brother.Mac is unaware that the brothers were fighting and
thought they were just playing.

In Conclusion this fight suggests that the battle between the brothers was personal and not
public. This also gives Paul a new faith in himself when he sees his brother afraid of him for the
first time. This is the first time in the story Benjy expresses fear,when Paul threatens him with a
sharp awl.The Author suggests that his incident will actually make the boys grow closer .Paul
has finally stood up for himself and will no longer feel envious of Benjy.
