ACTIVITY 1

STUDY QUESTIONS: Answer briefly the following questions and try to incorporate them in your
concept map below.

1. How do enzymes help in the digestion of food?

The food you eat needs to be broken down by digestive enzymes. These proteins
hasten the chemical processes that transform food into compounds that can be
absorbed by your digestive system. There are digesting enzymes in your saliva. They
are also expelled by a few of your organs, such as the liver, gallbladder, and pancreas.

2. What are the functions of hydrochloric acid?

Our body can better digest, break down, and absorb nutrients like protein with the aid of
hydrochloric acid. Additionally, it gets rid of viruses and germs in the stomach, shielding
your body from infection.

3. List the factors which are needed for normal digestion.

- Eat balance diet.
- Stay hydrated
- Stress management
4. What are the coenzymes and cofactors needed in the citric acid cycle?
With each oxidative step, the citric acid cycle also produces reduced forms of the
coenzymes NADH, GTP, and FADH2.
ACTIVITY 2
Make a concept map of the DIGESTIVE PROCESS, from food intake up to the
excretion of waste products. Include also the different roles of enzymes and
hormones in the process
