Design IHOP restaurant logo

When I thought about the logo I would like to redesign, I

immediately thought of the IHOP restaurant logo. Have you ever seen
the IHOP logo before? and how do you think about a logo? My first
impression when I saw the IHOP restaurant logo was to question the
type of business. What is the hidden message in the IHOP logo?
Around two years ago when I was walking down the street, I saw the
IHOP logo. I couldn't see anything or identify it as a restaurant logo.
Instead, I saw the smile from the red curve and felt it looked like a small
hotel logo. I would like to redesign it because I felt the current logo
wasn't creative and identifiable at their business.

Original IHOP restaurant logo

I chose to redesign the IHOP restaurant logo because I would like

to present the best image to communicate with people that it is a
restaurant. The International House of Pancakes (known as IHOP) is a
classic American restaurant and the home of all things breakfast.

The IHOP logo's purpose is to identify a customer's symbolized

satisfied smile. From what I understand, The emblem is also about
starting a good morning with a smile while taking a delicious breakfast
from IHOP. However, I would like to continue the restaurant concept
of smiley because a smile is a universal symbol and the coziest and
friendliest element. I would like to create a logo with a more subtle
smile that also clearly displays breakfast. It should have small graphics
that are memorable, easy to understand, and simple.

People will have happiness because they are eating great food from IHOP.

I chose to use the "IHOP" letters to convey the message of the

restaurant's full name and create a recognizable and unique icon.
First, I sketched a few ideas to find the best overall shape. Then, I drew
the “I”, “H”, and “O” vertically, to represent the visitors or customers.
The logo is meant to symbolize people, food, and happiness. I would
like to convey a smile by using "P" to characterize a smile. I used the
curved portion of the letter for a smile, because these simple symbols
tell people that you are smiling. I used a lowercase “i” to resemble a
human head because lowercase lettering is friendly, less intimidating,
and trendy. Also, the “i” means “international” from the full name of
the IHOP restaurant. I drew the wavy line showing the fried egg symbol
to indicate that this place is very illustrious with American breakfasts.
This free-form shape offers the sunny fried egg as a classic, wholesome
breakfast staple. I used fried eggs instead of the letter "O" for the first
two ideas, but I found it too complicated. So then, I drew two more
ideas and moved the fried egg in the middle of the logo between
"IHO" and "P." I sketched on the paper first, and then I drafted the logo
I chose as the best on the illustrator program.

Color is one of the most important

logo design elements. I changed the
logo's color to yellow, because it is more
delightful and effective at drawing
attention to the food compared to blue
and red. I would like to use warm colors
by adding yellow to the letter “I”, “H”, and
“O” vertically, which symbolizes people's

shapes because yellow can tell human
emotion that they are happy. Moreover, yellow is very common in the
food industry, while black is powerful and elegant. So, I would like to
represent a fried egg that conveys food because the fried egg is
yellow and white, which drives the appetite.
