The Diathesis-Stress Model states that certain disorders can develop biologically together with

the stressor environment have. An individual inherits certain traits or behaviors that can be
triggered through a condition of any stress which can lead to forming psychological disorders, a
person’s genetic vulnerability can be a cause as to why it showed and how it formed. Diathesis
means a tendency for the person to develop the specific disorder and would not show up until
certain environmental factors or stress occurs.
In the case of the twins’ situation, even if they have the same genes does not mean that they
experience, feel and perceive life as the same. In my own understanding, they can be both
exposed to the stressor but the identical twin who suffers from clinical depression did inherit the
diathesis or this twin may have higher vulnerability than the other, it is then triggered by stress
coming from environmental stressors that leads them to be diagnosed with the said psychological
disorder.
