Oregon's elk are one of the most sought-after species for hunters and the second

most popular game animal after deer. Rocky Mountain elk are found in eastern
Oregon and Roosevelt elk are found in western Oregon, with most concentrated in
the Coast, Cascade and Blue Mountain ranges. For Rocky Mountain elk hunting,
access is good in most units through public forest and private timber company land.
The top three Rocky Mountain elk areas are Wenaha, Walla Walla, and Mt. Emily.
All three of these units are going to take 23+ points to draw for either archery or
rifle. bulls generally weighing 700-1,100 pounds. Elk are herbivores, meaning that
they only eat plants. In the spring and summer, they will primarily graze on low-
lying grasses, flowers, ferns, lichens, and shrubs. In fall and winter, they browse on
higher-growing vegetation such as sprouts and branches of shrubs and trees that
are within reach.
