    This study examined whether an oral drill method could improve pronunciation among 5th semester students in an English Education program. Students participated in pronunciation practice sessions using the oral drill method. Pre- and post-tests were used to assess students' pronunciation before and after the intervention. Results found that students' pronunciation had improved, as evidenced by higher total post-test scores compared to pre-tests, fewer very poor scores, and a higher mean score on the post-test. Statistical analysis confirmed the improvement was significant. Therefore, the study concluded that the oral drill method can effectively improve students' pronunciation.

    ABSTRACT

    Improving Students’ Pronunciation through Oral Drill Method to the Fifth


    Semester of English Education Study Program Teacher Training and Education
    Faculty Opened University Academic Year 2022/2023

    The purpose of this research is to know whether the method used being able to
    improve the students’ pronunciation or not. In applying the method, the researcher
    had the students practice what they had studied. On the other hand, in learning
    process, all the students must practice their material repeatedly until they master
    their material.

    The kind of this research is Pre-Experimental with oral drill method.


    Population in this research is all fifth semester students English Education Study
    Program Teacher Opened University and sample of this research is all fifth
    semester students. The data that had been collected it was based on students’ pre-
    test and post-test then it was analyzed by descriptive statistic.

    The research result showed that students’ pronunciation had improved.


    Based on the datum, the total score of pre-test and post-test in which the total
    post-test was 2100 while pre-test was1476. It proved that there is significant
    difference because the total score of post-test was greater than pre-test. Not only
    that the frequency and the rate percentage of the students’ post-test also was better
    than their pre-test in which no students got very poor after giving treatment and it
    can be proved too by the students’ mean score in which the mean score of the pre-
    test was 49 and post-test was 70, it shows that the mean score of the post-test was
    greater than pre-test. Not only that, but the t-test also shows that the t-test value
    was greater than t-table value in which t-test was 9.37 while t-table was 1.699. So
    this way, it can be concluded that the use of oral drill method in pronunciation
    teaching can improve students’ pronunciation.
