Position Paper
(The Effects of Blended Learning Today: Boon or Bane?)

INTRODUCTION

The term "blended learning" describes the blending of various learning

contexts. It mixes more contemporary digital activities with traditional face-to-face

classroom teaching techniques. The technique creates a more integrated approach for

teachers and learners, according to the strategy's proponents. In the past, technology-

based learning tools supported in-person training.

Technology will take on a bigger role through a hybrid learning strategy. Nowadays,

every child has their own virtual teacher in the shape of a computer due to the

development of technology. Blended learning has a lot of potentials. For the average

person, blended learning refers to the use of computers in the classroom for educational

purposes. With blended learning, we may do tasks that are not possible in our traditional

educational systems, such as learning to program, entering test questions, or creating a

PowerPoint presentation. It is connected to technology. Children nowadays, with their

virtual identities, should use technology to further their education.

Blended learning prepares us well for the corporate world. Employees select you for

a job if you are well equipped with soft skills like Microsoft word, PowerPoint, and Excel,

and if you know how to code an app, or know how to manage a website. Blended learning is

about using a computer as a tool for learning from the computer. Blended learning has

broadened our career choices. There are lots of professions that one can opt for.

Learning is interesting with blended learning. When students understand their

lessons using videos and audio instead of just text, they become more engaged. Both

students and teachers benefit from its increased effectiveness and efficiency. Students are

free to move at their own pace when using this technology. When students answer the

question incorrectly, they might receive fast feedback. Students can study wherever they

are. Additionally, they get remote access to their lessons. Students benefit from becoming

independent learners, and professors can now lessen their focus on remediation.

Blended learning strategies allow students to obtain knowledge or assistance online

anytime, while classroom learning enhances relationships between the students and the

educators. It allows students to connect with their instructors about projects,

announcements, tests, and whatever they wish to clarify. It also enables assessments to be

more individualized and productive. Blended learning provides learners with control and

clarity, allowing them to determine their own learning pace and take lessons from

anywhere in the world. It also gets more affordable and accessible to a broader range of

students. Studies have shown that blended learning allows students to have a more

thorough comprehension of the course material. Students can utilize online research

options to enrich what they have learned in class. With the enormous variety of resources

accessible online, they can delve further into the topics on their own.

The pandemic has made blended learning the new standard and the way of the

future in education that’s why for me blended learning is a boon. Overall, I think that the

ability for students to learn at their own pace and the creation of a personalized

educational experience through blended learning has the potential to transform how

students learn. Remember that the purpose of blended learning is to give your students a

more engaging learning experience by combining the advantages of traditional and online

learning methods. With blended learning, you'll get the best of both worlds, which will help

both students and teachers.

ARGUMENTS

Evidence #1: Major Benefits of Blended Learning

Commlab India Bloggers (July 29, 2022)

Blended learning is a teaching method that combines online and face-to-face

instruction. This approach to learning can be tailored to the needs of any organization, and

it offers a number of benefits for employees who are part of the hybrid workforce.

The idea behind blended learning is to combine the best features of both

classroom/workplace and online learning. This approach can be customized to the needs of

the learner(s), hence being a more interactive and engaging form of learning, hence

offering a number of benefits for employees who are part of the hybrid workforce.

Blended learning is a combination of classroom training and virtual instructor-led

training. It is an eLearning solution that enhances the learning experience of the learners.

Blended learning can incorporate many formats like virtual instructor-led training

(VILT), microlearning, and mobile learning.

Blended learning allows employees to learn at their own pace, which can be

beneficial for those who need extra time to digest material or who want to move through

the content more quickly. Additionally, blended learning can be more engaging than

traditional classroom instruction, as it allows learners to interact with the material in a

variety of ways as per their preference.

Better Retention Rates

Blended learning can improve the retention of information. This type of learning is

flexible and allows learners to interact with the material in a variety of ways. Additionally,

blended learning can be more engaging than traditional classroom instruction, which can

lead to better understanding and retention of the content.

This is possible through the increased opportunities for interaction between

learners and instructors and the ability to design courses in an interactive fashion. The

improved engagement compared to traditional classroom instruction results in better

retention, microlearning format can also be used for the better retention of the learners

and hence sending your message across more effectively.

Better Feedback Opportunities

Blended learning provides increased opportunities for feedback between learners

and instructors. This type of learning is interactive and allows learners to interact with the

material in a variety of ways. In a hybrid workforce, blended learning can derive better

feedback because the general anonymity or the lack of having to face the instructors

directly may make it easier to convey otherwise hard-to-say messages.

This increased engagement and feedback can lead to a better understanding of the

material on both ends and improve job performance. The improved feedback and

interaction with instructors or with you can also lead to improved relationships and better

prospects for the future.

Evidence #2: What Are The Benefits Of Blended Learning?

Anagha Vallikat (September 1,2021)

Blended learning combines the best of classroom-based learning and high-tech e-

learning to give the student the best learning experience. This kind of learning keeps in

mind the inclination of all kinds of learners. Some tend to learn better with the structured

classroom-based approach, while others tend to assimilate better with the independent,

semi-autonomous computer-led training.

With classroom-based training, students get immediate feedback, while online

learning provides the avenue for self-paced and interactive learning. Overall, blended

learning enhances the effectiveness of learning and cancels out the inadequacies of the two

learning approaches, while complementing each other.

Accounts everyone

Blended learning caters to every kind of learner regardless of whether they prefer a

classroom-based approach, an online approach, or a combination of both. This type of

combining both teaching methodologies helps in customizing the learning content in the

most optimized manner.

Trends and feedback

Since blended learning utilizes both online and offline methodologies, it is easy for

instructors to adapt to the latest trends and modalities in the curriculum. Instructors can

utilize the technology aspect to know data-driven insights and track students’ progress

with ease. For learners, blended learning offers the unique opportunity to discuss, practice,

and model their newly acquired skills without being restricted to the consumption of

training material online.

Global reach

Today, technology allows educational organizations to spread their wings far and

wide. With blended learning, such organizations are no longer restricted by geography and

can make their training material accessible universally to a global audience. Regardless of

the location, learners can access training material online and have online discussions

within organizations from the comforts of their homes.

Studies have shown that blended learning increases engagement by providing

different opportunities for student engagement using digital engagement tools, like those

available through CourseKey Engage. By providing digital opportunities for engagement,

educators may see more engagement online from those students who aren’t as comfortable

sharing in front of their peers in person.

When it comes to keeping students engaged, variety in delivery and reinforcement

of course material is key. Through digital learning and engagement tools, educators can

create a more fun and engaging learning environment rather than simply reading text off a

slide over video software.

Efficient use of instructor time

Traditional in-person courses require instructors to spend time outside of class

completing administrative tasks like printing out handouts, uploading attendance data,

hand-grading assignments, etc. Through the use of technology in blended learning, many of

those tasks can be automated, allowing instructors to spend more time helping students

comprehend material and develop their skills, in addition to creating more bandwidth to

prepare strong lessons.

Gather learner data for better insights

By using digital tools to gather data such as comprehension, engagement, and

attendance, administrators can analyze trends and use their findings to help students

succeed. Whether it’s reaching out to individual students that may need extra assistance or

a reminder of their standing, or making course-wide adjustments to review class material a

majority of the students missed, admins can leverage the data collected to support

students.

CONCLUSIONS

A blended learning strategy promotes enhanced literacy and learning by giving

access to a variety of flexible learning contexts. The world as they know it will be reflected

in the learning programs for students who have had a blended learning experience, and

they will be able to use their critical thinking skills to participate in a society where we are

expected to create, collaborate, and communicate in digitally mediated networks. Adult

education providers will work responsively to ensure educators have the knowledge and

tools they need to create high-quality, collaborative learning experiences where learners

develop confidence and competence using technology for learning, for work, and in their

daily lives. This will be accomplished by developing a support system that prioritizes

people.

Blended learning is without a doubt the ideal option for meeting the learning

demands and obstacles of learners who prefer traditional instructor-led training for its

human connection as well as the convenience of learning anytime anywhere in various

forms. This learning method is more relevant than ever to ensure optimal performance as

is that communication skills play an important part in many of a tech professional's daily

responsibilities, including collaborating with peers, writing, and giving presentations.

Working in tech often involves solving complex problems, a task which would

sometimes be impossible without the benefits of collaboration. Having strong

interpersonal communication skills makes it much easier for coworkers and teammates to

work together to generate ideas, solve problems, and learn from one another. Additionally,

being able to transfer knowledge in easily understood ways is invaluable when training

others.

Solid communication skills are also useful for giving presentations when it's critical

to make information clear and engaging for an audience of peers or potential clients. Tech

professionals may be tasked with explaining to a group how a new system or program

works, or with presenting a proposal for a new idea or project. Being able to highlight the

most important details and deliver them in an interesting way will ensure a memorable

presentation, and probably a successful proposal or pitch. The communication skills you

develop in college will prove to be a recurring asset in your career.
