“Teaching Skill-Based in Online Learning Platform:


Methodologies and Strategies in Teaching Technology and
Livelihood Education”
Conducted by: BTVTE Department College for Research and Technology
(May 11, 2021)

Introduction:

The webinar that we attended was entitled "Teaching Skill-Based Subject in Online
Platform: Methodologies and Strategies in Teaching Technology and Livelihood
Education", held at 9:00 am on May 11, 2021 (Tuesday) via zoom and was recorded via
Facebook live. Dr. Filomena Cerera addressed opening remarks and Dr. Reynato C.
Arimbuyutan gave an inspirational message. Ms. Ana Rose Cuison who is the first speaker
shared knowledge and insights about the methodologies and strategies in teaching Technology
and Livelihood Education on how to utilize different online platforms, also known as the
Learning Management Systems. The second speaker, Mr. Domingo Manuel discussed the
methodologies and strategies in teaching Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) as follows:

subject matter and the nature of students under their charge.

- The commitment of facilitating the personal and intellectual development of the students.

- Duty-bound to stimulate the spirits of inquiry, acquisition of knowledge and understanding and
the formation of desirable values and attitudes among their students

3. Commitment to the Profession

- Is expected to grow professionally in the service and inhibit themselves from doing actions
that can put the profession in shame

b. Specific entry competencies- prerequisite skills that learners must possess in order to
benefit from the course or training
c. Learning Styles- refers to the learner's traits that account for the process of approaching
the learning tasks and of processing information

CONCERNS FOR PREPARING THE INSTRUCTIONAL PLAN/ DAILY LESSON LOG (DLL)
(BASE ON CURRICULUM GUIDE)

Who are the learners? What do they need (learning competencies) to achieve the desired
results (content standards) and to perform well (performance standard)?

1. How can we engage our students when learning activity?


o Hands-on
o Involves mystery or problem
o Provides variety

2. When are students most engaging when learning activity?


o Is built on real-world challenges
o Gives learner opportunity to modify and personalize the challenge
o Balances cooperation and competition

3. When is learning most effective when learning activity?


o Is focused on clear and worthy goals
o Provides for models and exemplars
o Has clear criteria to monitor progress

TEACHING APPROACHES & STRATEGIES FOR TLE-TVL

a. Teaching Approach - is a set of principles, beliefs, or ideas about the nature of


learning which is translated into the classroom.
o Examples: constructivist, collaborative, integrative, inquiry based and reflective
b. Teaching Strategy - is a long term plan of action designed to achieve a particular
goal?
o Examples: Direct Instruction, Indirect Instruction, Cooperative, Interactive
Learning, Individual Study and Experiential Leaning
c. Teaching Method- refers to a series of systematic action by teachers in order to
achieve short-term teaching objectives. It is an organized effort and procedure based on
the selected strategy.
d. Teaching Technique- It is a systematic way of doing something. It implies an orderly
logical arrangement of steps. It is more procedural. It refers to the teacher's application
skills in implementing the selected teaching method. The steps in teaching, Teacher
needs to consider students background in choosing teaching techniques.
e. Teaching Activities- refers to actions or work done by students during the teaching
and learning session.
o Examples: revision work, group discussion, drawing and etc.

TEACHING STRATEGIIES FOR TLE-TVL

a. Direct Instruction - Direct instruction is the use of straightforward, explicit teaching


techniques, usually to teach a specific skill (Lecture, Demonstration, Problem-based
learning, Hand-out, Workbook, Drill & Practice, etc.).
b. Indirect Instruction - Indirect instruction is an approach to teaching and learning in
which concepts, patterns, and abstractions. (Decision Making, Individual Research

Work, Problem-based learning, Project-based learning, Computer-Aided Instruction,


Modular or CBLM, Video Tutorial)
c. Experiential Learning - Experiential learning is a process through which students
develop knowledge, skills, and values from direct experiences outside a traditional
academic selling. (Project Making, Model Making, Field Trip, Games, Role Playing, On-
the-job training)

d. Individual Study - The student in this learning strategy is guided by a teacher but
usually does not take classes with other students every day (Distance Education,
Computer-Aided Instruction, Individual Reporting, Essay, Modular or CBLM, Assigned
Questions, Project Making, Model Making, Video Call, Video Project and etc.).

Purpose of the Webinar:

This webinar were intended to help the Bachelor in Technical Vocational Teacher
Education students, and the Teachers on what kind of Methodologies and Strategies in teaching
Technology and Livelihood Education they can use and apply to be able to be efficient and
effective teachers. Also it will serve this as a guide on how they can deal different issues and
challenges on their career.

Main Objectives of the Webinar:

At the end of the webinar the attendees should be able to:


 Objective 1: Identify the Methodologies and Strategies in Teaching Technology and
Livelihood Education.
 Objective 2: Appreciate the importance of Methodologies and Strategies in Teaching
Technology and Livelihood Education on a new normal education.
 Objective 3: Apply and use the different application and techniques on a new normal
set up of education.

 In this webinar, we learned the different apps and strategies that we can used in teaching
in a new normal education.
 It enlightened our minds of what kind of environment we had today, especially on what
do we need to prepare for the near future.
 This webinar is very useful today since we are on new styles of teaching and learning, and
it gives tips that we can use on how to deal with the diversity of our future students to be
on how we can be a not just effective teachers but to be an efficient one.
 This webinar will serve as a guide to the path that were taking, especially on how we can
handle different situation and challenges.
 By attending on this kind of webinar, enlightened my mind that this is what I really loved
and want to be, and that is being a teacher. I know that there are many challenges, ups
and down that we are going to face but we need to strive and give our 100 percent on it.

Participants: This webinar is free, and the students of Bachelor in Technical Vocational
Teacher Education are the participants as well as the teachers of College for Research and
Technology.

Comments or Suggestion on the Webinar:

This webinar are very useful especially today, because since we don’t have a face to
face class this will help and serve as a guide for us future educators on how, what strategies
and methodologies that we are going to use and apply for us to be able to be an efficient and
effective teachers. And it gives us tips and advices from the expert on how we deal with a lot of
issues and problem before, during and after our career. We enjoyed being participants on the
said webinar and we would like to thank all of the people behind this successful webinar for
giving us an opportunity to be part of it.
