1. Their rivalry stems primarily from the fact that they hold divergent viewpoints; for example, Rizal
holds different political beliefs and ideologies than del Pillar, and they disagree on who should lead their
group. As a result of their disagreement over who should lead their group, everyone in the group cast a
vote to elect the new leader. And because Rizal cares about the Filipino people, he departed Europe and
gave del Pilar control of the Association Hispanic Filipino in Spain to prevent conflict and preserve
harmony among Filipino expats.

2.Rizal was motivated to write the El Fili as a tribute to the Gomburza priest by the three priests' gallant
deed, and he even penned the following letter to them: "To the memory of the priests, Don Mariano
Gomes, 85, Don Jose Burgos, 30, and Don Jacinto Zamora, 35, who were put to death on the scaffold at
Bagumbayan on February 28, 1872; the Church, by refusing to unfrock you, has cast doubt on the crime
charged against you; the Government, by shrouding your trial in secrecy and pardoning your co-accused,
has suggested that some errors were made when your fate rejects your guilt. So long as it cannot be
proved beyond a reasonable doubt that you took part in the Cavite insurrection. Whether or not you
were seeking justice and liberty and whether or not you were patriots, I have the right to dedicate my
work to you as the victims of the evil I am attempting to combat. And let these pages act as belated
wreaths of withered leaves on your unremembered tombs as we patiently wait for Spain to one day
clear your names while refusing to take part in your demise. Without sufficient evidence, whoever
challenges your memory has your blood on his hands. Rizal chose the Gomburza over other groups that
also fought against Spanish colonialists because of their superior military prowess. Dr. Rizal opted to
write the el fili to honor their name because he wanted people to understand that not only were their
lives in peril, but also the lives of their families and loved ones. This has been a strategy employed by
many tyrannical regimes throughout history.
