CHARACTER SKETCHES

LOST CHILD
The child was full of life and laughter. He was an innocent boy who was obedient to his parents and
always came to them when they called. He was easily distracted by the different things at the fair. He was
an explorative boy who wanted to explore every little thing that caught his eye. However, being a child,
his attention span was very short, and as soon as he spotted something new, the current object of interest
would be left forgotten. But, he did not ask his parents to get him all those things, as he knew his parents
very well, that they would refuse by making an excuse. When he was away from his parents, the stranger
offered him all those things that he wanted from the start. But, he refused them and only sobbed that he
wanted his mother and father. This showed that he loved his parents.

HELEN KELLER
She was a deaf and blind girl who became the first visually and hearing-impaired person to earn a
Bachelor of Arts degree. She was born without any illness and was fast learning to speak, but later her
illness made her blind and deaf which made her stop talking. She was a hardworking girl who was always
eager to learn. She was dissatisfied with her mode of communication. After hearing the story of Ragnhild
Kaata, she decided to learn to speak. She was determined and decided she will not sit satisfied until she
learns to talk. She was always motivated by her teachers. Discouragement and weariness often pulled her
down, but she never gave up and due to her courage and willpower, she overcame all obstacles and
learned to talk.

LUCY GRAY
Lucy was a sweet innocent girl who lived in the lap of nature far away from civilization. She was a
solitary child who spent most of her time alone playing in the woods. She was an obedient girl who
obeyed her parents and cared for them. When her father told her to fetch her mother back home as a storm
was expected to come that night, without making any excuses, she obeyed her father and decided to go to
the town. She was a brave girl: to protect her mother, she faced a storm and traveled through thorny
bushes and snowy harsh conditions. She dies tragically in the end, but, some people say that she is alive
and plays in the wild while singing a solitary song.

NAUGHTY
Naughty was one of the seven puppies of Bijlee. He was named ‘Naugty’because of his naughty behavior.
He was the craftiest of the lot. He would be the first one to reach Bijlee and have his feed. Then, he would
knock his siblings systematically and gobble their share. He was the strongest and the quickest of the
seven pups, and would always end up with the maximum booty. Naughty was very hard to train. He was
born to play pranks and had loads of attitude. In the end, with the incident with Pinky Gulati, he got very
close to Meera and became her shadow. So, Amar started calling him Shadow.

AMAR
Amar was a sensitive and kind boy. He loved dogs and wanted to adopt one. But his mother hated dogs
so, he was not allowed to bring in a dog. He was less adventurous and hesitated a bit picking the puppies
up and cuddling them. However, slowly and gradually, he got attached to them. He was a very good
friend, he took the responsibility to take care of the pups and used to feed them. E was a persuasive boy as
he convinced his mother to let him adopt Naughty.

SUMMARY
Lucy Gray
In this poem, William Wadsworth tells us about the tragic story of Lucy Gray. He tells us that he had often
heard of Lucy Gray and saw her in the wild. He then proceeds further saying that you may see the fawn
playing or the hares in the wild, but the sweet face of Lucy will never be seen again. He then tells us
about her story that once, Lucy’s mother had gone to the town but, a storm was expected that night, so,
Lucy’s father handed her a lantern and sent her to fetch her mother back home. But, the storm arrived
before the time and Lucy lost in the wild. The parents were very worried and started to look for her. But
there were no signs or clues of her. In the morning, they saw a wooden bridge from the hilltop and
decided to look for her there. They almost lost hope for her being alive, but, the next moment, they saw
her footprints and the hope was back. They followed her footsteps, moving through thorny bushes and by
the long stone wall. When they reached the bridge and into the middle of the plank, there were no more
footsteps indicating that she had fallen into the river and died. But, some people say that she is still alive
and wanders in the wild jumping over the rocks and singing a solitary song.

THE SONG OF THE FLOWER

In the poem ‘Song of the Flower’, the flower tells us about its life. It tells us that it is created by the force
of nature and all elements came together to form a flower. It says that it is like a star fallen from the blue
sky on the green grass. It tells us about its life that it was conceived in the Winter, it was born in Spring, it
was reared in the lap of Summer and its life comes to an end in Autumn. It tells us that it shoulders the
responsibility with the breeze to announce the daybreak. In the evening, it bids farewell to the sun with
the birds. It tells us that plains are decorated with flowers’ colors and fragrances. It enjoys its life by
drinking dew as wine, listening to the music of the birds, and dancing to the rhythmic swaying of the
grass. It also plays a significant role in humans’ lives. It is there in humans’ lives in every joy and sorrow.
Even though the flower’s lifespan is very short, it doesn’t complain and it enjoys its life. In the end, the
flower says that humans should learn a lesson from the flower. We should not focus on the negative
things, but look up to the light i.e positivity.
