Literary Essays: A Specimen

Sweet are the uses of adversity
Introduction:

What: Rousseau once said that adversity is a great teacherquote. It is due

to the fact that life is not bed of roses, but rather than thorns. If one
falls upon the thorns of life, one bleeds but ultimately learns.
Adversities are ups and downs of life one encounters during his lifespan
whether these are in the form of misery, affliction, tragedy, hardship,
difficulty and any unfavorable or havoc situation of life. In reality these
adversities are of immense importance. He who faces it and enhances
real experience of life he gets its zesty taste. A ship of life which sails
smoothly , facing no hardships, and reaches the shore will not remain
steadfast if encountered with a severe tempest ; however a ship,
regularly facing adversities will not budge an inch.

Why: Indeed, one who faces difficulties gets its unlimited uses and
everlasting lessons. A person having faced tough situation in life
repeatedly, remains ready & study in all obstacles. He can understand
the nature of problem, the gravity of an issue and the possible solutions
to solve it. On the contrary, a person having spent life of ease and
comfort will easily stumble with any minor obstacle due to the
inexperience he has. A bed of thorns makes a person more successful in
life due to the lessons the life teaches him, while a life of ease will
never incorporate in a person the qualities of steadfastness, resolve,
determination or toughness and ultimately, such person will turn a
coward in the hour of need.

How: History is full with magnanimous and upright human beings who
dared against difficulties of life and succeeded ultimately. Examples of
sophisticated societies, nations, and individuals ….quote onwards your
key arguments in general terms.

Extracting main arguments:

Literature: In situations like world wars, crises like the great depression
and pandemics the Spanish flu and Covid-19, optimistic writers
encouraged societies and nations by their ideas

Writers like Thomas H.Palmer and Edward Hickson propounded this stance to try
again and again in the face of difficulties in life.

Society: A society having excessive crimes will go towards strict laws

and its implementation which will ultimately discourage crimes.

Agriculture: A country having recurring climate blow/impacts on

agriculture will go to better climate resilient technique

Climate: Climate change a global issue is uniting humanity; though

currently divided by global politics in blocs

Education: Pandemic of Covid-19 resulted in online learning application

in education

Business: Lockdowns, closure of borders, stoppage of internationation

flights gave tough time to business, resultantly E-Commerce grew to an
unprecedented level
Amazon 150%
Wall Mart 75%
Daraz 20 times more order

History: History is replete with examples of leaders who faced

adversities but overcame it with their steadfastness:
Nelson Mandela, Mahmud Ghaznavi attacked India 17 times between the years 1000 to 1027 AD
and succeeded later.

Religion: Muslims suffered atrocities at the hands of infidels in

Makkah, but after migration established a state of Madina and

Science: Example of Thomas Edison , invention of a bulb

Thomas Edison was a newspaper seller and he was afraid of dark. He wanted to
invent a bulb for his night phobia and for world. He tried almost one thousand
times to invent a light bulb but he remained unsuccessful. He did not give up and
surrender; his all tries were unsuccessful except one. Each try gave him strength
and eager unto success. His labor bore fruit; his struggle made him succeeded and
took him towards peaks. When he was asked about his failures, he replied "I
didn't fail 1,000 times. I found 1,000 ways how not to create a light bulb" Indeed,
Thomas Edison got sweet uses of adversity and got success.

Islam: The holy Quran says life is a test; and everyone will be tested
here. Those who succeed in this test will be rewarded.

Economy: Example of China

Half century ago China was not a developed country. They faced famine, hunger and poverty. These
difficulties gave China a leader like Mao. Chairman Mao stood firm like rock, commanded a long-march
and brought a pace in China. He started new world of dedication and labour. Every person of china
worked hard from dawn to dusk, they burnt candles of night and moved heavens into earth with
everlasting passion and spirited enthusiasm. Now, China has become most powerful country of world
and the 2nd biggest economy after the US. Indeed, they learnt a lot of difficulties.

Individual: Prosperity makes friends; adversity tries them

Hazrat Ali R.A says "Don't observe him who shelters you in mishaps but him who leaves you."

Give a counter/alternate view: Adversities ruin talent; mental capacity

and commitment: al alternate view (counter it by saying that this
stance does not hold water)

Conclusion: "A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an

optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty."
