A new simplified spectrophotometric technique was developed to simultaneously determine the quantities of levomycetin, anesthesin, and buckthorn oil carotenoids in the drug preparation olazol, without requiring preliminary separation of the components. Optimum analytical wavelengths were identified using informative coefficients to quantify levomycetin and anesthesin in the presence of buckthorn oil with relative errors of ±3.2% and ±1.0%, respectively. The method to calculate carotenoid content was also modified using a refined specific absorption index for β-carotene.

determination of levomycetin and anesthesin in the
presence of a sum of buckthorn-oil carotenoids in the multicomponent preparation olazol has been developed based on the modified Firordt method. The optimum analytical wavelengths for the spectrophotometric determination of levomycetin and anesthesin were found by calculating the Kats-Rozkin informative coefficients. A procedure has been elaborated that allows the simultaneous quantitative analysis of both parent drugs in the presence of buckthorn oil in olazol to be performed without preliminary separation of components of this complex preparation. The relative error of determination is ± 3.2% for levomycetin and ± 1.0% for anesthesin. In addition, the method of calculation of the content of carotenoids (recalculated for β-carotene) is modified so as to use a refined specific optical absorption index of β- carotene.
