Menstrual Cycle

Ovulation – release of an egg from your ovary, into your fallopian tube.

Menstruation – when blood and tissue from the uterus comes out from the vagina.

Ovarian Cycle - includes the events that occur in the ovary.

Uterine Cycle – events that occur in the uterus.

Woman’s Cycle
- Day 1 The Menstruation begins (beeding)
- Day 5 Menstruation is ussually ended.
- Day 14 Ovum has matured and bursts out of the ovary.
- Day 15 After 24 hours the egg is done.
- Day 26 In the absence of fertilization, estrogen/progesterone levels drop and the
endometrium lining breaks down.
- Day 28 Menstruation begins again.

Phases of the Menstrual Cycle


Menstrual Phase -Typically lasts from 1-5 days

- This is when menstruation occurs.


- blood and endometrial tissues detach from the inside of the uerus to the
vagina and then out of the body.

Follicular Phase – (6-13 days ) the endometrium in the uterus begins to built up again.

- several follicles start maturing in the ovaries.

Ovulation Phase – (Day 14 ) a matured Oocyte or egg cell will be released from the ovary.

Luteal Phase - (15- 28 days ) endometrium of the uterus continiues to prepare for a fertelized egg.

- The uterine lining becomes thicker and developes more blood vessels.
- The mature follicle that just released its egg develops ino a structure call a
corpus luteum.
