    NAME. DATE. CAN YOU CONCENTRATE Attention is @ primary component of intelligence, most psychologists agree; and concentration may be defined 05 ‘exclusive attention. You know well enough that if you give ‘your entire attention to a task - that is to say, if you concentrate on that task - you will perform it more ‘accurately, and more quickly, than if you allow your attention to wander. Strictly speaking, there is no such thing as entire attention, at least not for more than short periods. Laboratory results ‘would seem to place to top limit of the attention span at 30 seconds or less, although some estimates go as high as 90 seconds. Beyond this length of time, attention momentarily digresses, to be brought back to the task in hand by the process called "concentration." We are all familiar with the way sunbeams can ignite a fire it focused through a lens. Similarly, your energies can turn ‘out a better job if focused on the problem confronting you. ‘The intelligent mind is one which can avoid distractions and ‘concentrate on essentials. Here is a test of your concentration. You are asked 10 ‘examine a mass of numerals, focusing your mind wholly on locating certain pairs. Since this is a speed test, if you are distracted by the remaining numerals it; will affect your rate and so show in your score.
