Abstract

In this assignment, we are tasked to solve a problem using technology. The problem

given is about excessive phone heat and the steps we should take to solve this

problem. With the resources available to us using technology, We will specify what

steps we should take to solve this problem and determine the ways to avoid this type of

problem in the future. Finally, we will describe the solution along with the resources

used. This assignment will answer the following questions:

 What is overheating?

 What causes overheating?

 What are the effects of overheating?

 How shall overheating be handled?

 Explain the importance of preventing overheating.

Excessive Phone Heat

Overheating occurs when a computer or electronic device generates more heat than it

is designed to handle. It may cause the computer to shut down without warning to

prevent permanent damage to its hardware, especially the processor. Failing or

inadequate fan, poor ventilation, dust, dirt, an underperforming hard drive, and an

inadequate power supply are some of the main causes of overheating. Another potential

and most common cause is overcharging, it is when a device reached 100% and yetthe

charger is still plugged in. It is best to determine what causes the overheating and find

an adequate solution in all cases. Here are the listed possible causes of device

overheating:

 Excessive Usage

 Buggy Software Update/Malware

 Faulty Battery, Cable, or Charger

 Blocked Ventilation

 Internal Damage

 Older Hardware

Tips To Stop The Device From Overheating

 Take frequent breaks when playing games. This will allow the phone to cool

down.

 Turn off Wi-Fi or mobile data in areas with no signal. Heat buildup will be more

significant if the mobile phone constantly seeks a signal to connect to.

 Only install apps from well-regarded developers and the official play /app Store.

This should keep it safe from malware.

 Update the apps regularly, as new releases may fix older bugs that cause

excessive battery drain and heating.

 Never use a phone with a damaged battery. Get the battery replaced by an

authorized service center and avoid using grey market cables or chargers.

 Avoid leaving the phone in the car. If one must do so, leave it inside the

glovebox, away from direct sunlight.

 Keep the mobile phone clean. Wipe off dust and ensure that charging ports and

speaker grilles are free of dust and lint.

 Avoid extremely bulky cases. One does not gain much protection; these act like

insulators by not letting the phone dissipate heat.

Ways To Cool Down Devices

Fan the phone or blow in it

Fanning the phone or blowing on it can help. Just as fanning keeps a body cool, a

breeze can help cool off the phone when it is getting overly toasty.

Avoid Sudden Change In Temperature

Exposing the phone to extreme temperatures strains the components and puts it at risk

of collecting moisture, a surefire way to break the device.

Take It Off The Case

If the phone is overheating, the phone case is not helping. Phones are built with

dissipating heat, but cases can hold it in. So, take that case off to help the phone cool

down more quickly.

Turn Off Bluetooth

If Bluetooth® is on, but the phone is not connected to a device, it will constantly scan for

something to connect to. This can cause the phone to warm up.

Turn On Airplane Mode

If the phone has low or no signal, it may be working overtime searching for a

connection, leading to the phone warming up.

Separate The Phone From Other Tech

Stacking the running phone, tablet, and computer together in a bag makes them more

susceptible to overheating, so one has to keep them separated to help them keep their

cool.

Importance Of Keeping The Device From Overheating

Keeping the device from overheating will prolong battery life, maintain device quality

and performance, and also keep a person away from the dangers of device exploding.

A phone getting too hot could cause data loss or corruption, and reapeated exposure to

heat could permanently slow down your device, ecause of this, it is important to keep

your phone from overheating.

personal experiences on this matter. I’m using my laptop as a source for finding
