Error Code 5047 – Reverse Flow Detected

Error Code 5047 – Reverse Flow Detected

Error Code Definition

This medium error code is generated when the PCN detects reverse pulses from a connected
pulser.
Note: This error is applicable primarily to multi-product, single-hose units, though it can
occur on single product units such as the Ultra-Hi.

Non-blending units display this error on the PPU display for the pulser on which the reverse
flow was detected. Blending units display this error on the PPU display for any product using
the pulser on which the reverse flow is detected.

The quadrature and higher pulsers detect the correct rotational direction by monitoring the first
20 pulses every time the dispenser is power cycled. In case the pulser replaces an existing
pulser and it turns (or is turned) in the wrong direction for the first 20 pulses or more after
power cycling the unit, it will establish the rotational direction as being correct. The
subsequent delivery will result in an EC 5047. To avoid this, do not assemble or rotate a “live”
pulser in the wrong direction just after replacement or power cycle. If the pulser is
inadvertently rotated incorrectly, you can correct the condition by powering the unit down and
taking a backup, and ensuring that the pulser turns in the proper direction for the first 20
pulses.

Possible Causes – All Encore Pulser Types except Ultra-Hi and Coriolis
(DEF) Meter
Note: The causes listed are ordered from most to least likely.

• The dispenser is not programmed for encrypted pulsers (if equipped or installed).

or upgrade. This includes any flow rate or decimal point programming options, and
pulser options.

Coldstarting Procedure
To coldstart the PCN, proceed as follows:

1 Power down the unit.

2 On the PCN, install a jumper onto JP5 (marked coldstart).

3 Disconnect the two-wire from P1109 on the PCN.

4 Unseal the security switch and place in the ON position (to the right).

5 Restore power to the unit.

6 Verify that when the PCN comes online, “E 5” is shown on the door node display.

7 Remove the jumper from JP5, being careful not to remove JP6.

8 Warmstart the unit.

9 After the PCN version shows on the door node, verify that “5056” is shown in the product 1
PPU window.

10 Place the security switch into the OFF position (to the left).

Potential Issues
When replacing the PCN, failing to follow the recommended procedure risks loss of
calibration, pump totals, and programming details.

Symptoms
If the new procedure listed in the section “Replacing PCN” is not followed, the dispenser
might lose calibration, pump totals, and all previous programming details.

Remedy
Follow the steps listed in “Replacing PCN” until further notice. This procedure helps to ensure
that calibration, pump totals, and programming details are not lost.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Ensure that you follow the exact sequence as described in the section
“Replacing PCN”. If this process is not followed, you might lose programming
and have to recalibrate and reprogram the PCN.

Replacing PCN
To replace the PCN, proceed as follows:

Note: Record the Pump Totals, if applicable. Totals can be re-entered later in this process.

1 Isolate the two-wire from the POS.

2 Unseal the security (W&M) switch.

3 Turn the security switch to the ON position.

Replacing PCN

4 Update the software on the existing PCN of the dispenser to the version that is printed on the
label of the new PCN that you are installing.

5 After the PCN software upgrade has completed, remove the AC unit power. To initialize the
new PCN, replace the PCN and reconnect all the cables removed, except the Door Node LON
cables.

6 Ensure that the security switch is still in the ON position.

7 Switch ON the AC Power to the dispenser.

8 Wait for the Heartbeat LED (D14) on the PCN to blink for 60 seconds.

Note: The blinking Heartbeat LED indicates that the PCN software has finished booting. If
the Heartbeat LED blinks, stops blinking, and then starts blinking again, that is an
indication that the PCN did not boot up correctly.

9 Remove the AC power to the dispenser. This concludes the new PCN initialization.

10 Reconnect the Door Node LON cables to the PCN.

11 Switch ON the AC Power to the dispenser.

12 Re-enter pump totals (if applicable).

13 Switch OFF the security switch.

14 Connect the two-wire to establish communication with the POS.

15 Test the dispenser for proper operation and communication.

16 If necessary, notify your local W&M office that you broke the seal on the security switch to
repair.
