It was a year ago, during my Graphic Design class, when I first took the 16 Personalities

test. Just like now, I ended up with the Debater personality, which emphasizes logic,
creativity, and open-mindedness. As we were told, I first checked the weaknesses
section. While a few of them didn’t sit well with me, as I like to think I’m rather
empathetic, the rest nigh perfectly encapsulated my personality. Whenever someone
brings up something that causes me to raise an eyebrow in a conversation, I’m quick to
set aside anything they’ve said to laser focus on countering the one thing I thought was
off - that qualifies as argumentative. Focusing has always been a bit of an issue for me,
as I tend to hop from thought to thought as soon as I get bored of it, which is listed. I’m
also quick to brush other people off as “stupid” if their opinions don’t sit right with me.
And of course, menial and repetitive tasks are the bane of my existence.

I also find myself comfortable nearly anywhere as long as I’m able to strike a good
conversation, and love creative problem solving both recreationally and through
schoolwork. These are just some aspects of the Debater personality that feel right at
home with me, and I imagine that as I look deeper into myself, I may find more
similarities. Through those similarities, I can also infer more about my potential habits
once I properly enter the workforce. In fact, my personality type is perfectly aligned with
a job that has interested me for ages: Software Engineer.

Developing interest in the career is not an issue - I have been interested in video
games, self-service checkouts, and all variety of electronic tech for as long as I can
remember. Coding is all about problem solving, using the tools you have access to in
order to create what you need, and working around whatever bugs you discover along
the way. It’s also not a job you would have to traditionally work a set schedule for. As
long as what needs to be done gets done on time, you can work as much or as little as
you need. Taking logical criticism well and being open-minded towards other options
would also assist when working together with others on projects that require multiple
sections of code pieced together.

While software engineering isn’t my only possible route, it’s a very plausible one that I’m
on a good route towards. I can imagine my personality type assisting me in plenty of
other jobs, but it’s comforting to know that the one I’ve been eyeing for a while now is
right in line with who I am.
