Why Cable Glands?

);;> Cable gla ds are the universal replacement for a condulet. They
are used in every country in the world and will continue to be used
more and more, even in the USA. Why?
- Cable gl nds offer superior corrosion resistance (up to IP68) over iron and aluminum
condule s. Most outlast even PVC coated condulets.

- Smaller n size, installation versatility.

- Many gl nds offer cost and labor savings, especially with the price of conduit where it
is today. Most OEM customers are already using cable and glands. Other customers
such as utomotive, pulp and paper, and pharmaceuticals are gravitating toward cable

and gla ds. Chemical plants and refineries are also using glands for process and

instrum ntation areas.

- The IEC standard wiring method is with ca ble and glands- worldwide . IEC Electrical

Sales ar much larger globally than NEC .

COOPER Crouse-Hinds Frequently Asked Questions

1. What doe n't the cable fit the gland?

manufacturers' tolerance does not actually match what their
cut-sheets tate. The solution is to make sure that the cable falls as close
to the midp int cable range that our gland will accept. That way, even if the
cable is ou of tolerance , it can be properly terminated in our glands.

2. Why are e not price competitive with Hawke or CMP?

- The majorit of examples and applications we have seen are not comparing
apples to a pies . For example, our TMCX is not the correct cross reference
to the Haw e 501/453/UNV (universal cable gland). In fact , our TAB1
Series is at a fraction of the cost of the TMCX cable gland. The reality is
that we are very competitive with Hawke and CMP , and will continue to

3. How do e differentiate ourselves from the

competiti n?
- Combinin CAPRI , CEAG , CCH , and Peppers cable glands together, we
offer the ' roadest line of cable glands in the industry.
- We have istened to our end-users and customers by providing an
accesso kit- simply add K1 to the part number and you will receive 5
parts in a bag vs. 5 separate parts to order with Hawke and CMP proving
cost, lab r, and transactional cost savings to our customers.
- Many of ur stocked cable glands in Roanoke , VA include the accessory
kit-K1 .

rd that CMP has a triple rated cable gland?

- CCH and Hawke have taken an honest approach to the marketplace and
offer both CSA and ATEX dual listings on a single fitting. CMP claims to
have UL CSA I ATEX triple ratings, however, after further review of the
certificat s published on their own Web site, their UL listing is only for
NEMA 4 -NO hazardous area UL listings.

5. offer all thread types?

- Yes wed In selecting cable glands, we manufacture NPT, Metric, and
PG threa ' ed cable glands. We also have a full line of adapters from NPT
to metric, metric to NPT, PG to metric, and so on .

6. What do s NP (nickel-plated) brass do for the

customer.
- It provide a higher level of corrosion resistance than brass cable glands.
From a p icing standpoint, it falls in the middle of brass and stainless
steel glan s, so many customers will go this route. Nickel-plated brass
may be c nfused with stainless steel from the aesthetic standpoint, so be
careful wi h this .
