poorest people Basilica of Trajan • The basilica, known as the Basilica Ulpia, was set transversely over the full 120 m (400 ft) width of the forum, • Interior consist of a huge rectangular nave, 25 m (80 ft) wide, surrounded on all sides by double colonnades (96 in total) • Extended beyond the end colonnades by two semi circular apses with attached orders for internal decoration. • The main hall has a double surround of columns that were probably of white or yellow marble, in the Corinthian order. • There were galleries over one or both of the aisles created by the colonnades, with a trussed timber roof over the central nave. • The ceiling known to have been sheathed with gilded bronze roof tiles, while the walls were covered with multi-colored marbles.
