November 8,2022
Activities:
On this day, afternoon I was designated to Mill and Boiler Department I was introduced to Supervisors,
Assistant Boiler Operator, Junior Engineer and my fellow cadet Engineer, they told me some inspiring words to
be more efficient in work. Due to lack of time I was not toured here in boiler.
November 9-14

I was introduced to the water systems and its parts:
1. Make Up # 1 and 2
2. Make Up Pumps (North, South, Center)
3. Hotwell Tank (Supplied condensate water from kestner Evaporator )
4. Daerator Lift Pump
5. Daerator Tank

Learnings:
This week I had learned that the water supplied in the Make-up tanks are condensate water, make up pumps are
the one who supplies water to the hotwell tank if there is not much supply on the Kestner Evaporators. Hotwell
tank is the storage of the condensate water then goes to deaerator lift pump the one that supplies water coming
from hotwell tank then enters to the daerator tank a film type deaerator, sprays in the head which give film
distribution then if the temperature is right and with contact with the exhausting steam, dissolved gases are
formed particularly oxygen and are released through a vent. In addition, daerators provide feedwater storage and
proper suction conditions for boiler feedwater pumps. The water coming from the daerator storage tank is fed to
the suction side of the pump. each pump delivers feedwater control valve to the boiler. the water then enters to
the economizer ranging with a temperature of 115°C, economizer are heat exchanger it captures heat from
exhaust flue gas and return it to the boiler by heating the incoming feedwater ranging with a temperature of
300°C it is then reject to the economizer ranging with a temperature of 175°C. This also gains me knowledge
It consists of 5 loops multiplied with 6 elements equals to 30 segments. The economizer Elements are arranged
into one bank 20 wide x 32 high and are carried on the traverse supporting beams and enclosed in a steel plate
casing. The panels form the sides and ends and are welded to ensure gas tightness. Spacer bars, which at the
same time serve to tie a vertical row of elements together, are provided with support feet and occur in line with
each support beam. At the header ends of the elements, the top/bottom tube in each element is not welded to
the spacer bars to allow movement due to differential expansion and to assist the attachment at headers to
elements.
115˚C
175˚C
The economizer may be stored wet or dry, the method depending on the storage time and
anticipated environmental conditions for that period. Wet storage techniques must never be employed if there is
Cleaning of economizer:
The rake sootblower is mainly used for cleaning of finned heating surfaces. It also used to
clean tubes of air heaters carrying flue gas or the like. The blowing element of the rake sootblower is a blowing
rake consisting of a central tube and one or several traverse tubes which are equipped with venture nozzles. The
blow jets leaving the nozzle are directed in parallel to the fins and therefore provide for optimum cleaning of the
narrow tube lanes and of between the individual fins. the blowing rake is arranged axially moveable in the flue
gas pass and remains in the flue gas pass even during blower breaks, the rear end of the central tube is
connected to a lance tube which is moved by a sootblower carriage running in the slide rails of the track beam.
The lance tube moves axially into the flue gas pass, changes its direction of movement in reversing position and
