DRUG ABUSE CAMPAIGN PROJECT.

Title: Say No to Drug Abuse: A Campaign for Campus Students

INTRODUCTION:

Drug abuse has been an ongoing problem on college and university campuses across the world.
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), young adults aged 18-25 are the most likely
group to use drugs. With easy access to drugs, the pressure to fit in, and academic and personal stress,
students may turn to drugs as a means of coping. The consequences of drug abuse can be devastating,
including poor academic performance, addiction, mental health problems, and even death. Therefore, it
is crucial to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and provide students with the necessary
resources to prevent and overcome drug addiction.

CAMPAIGN GOALS:

1. To produce healthy and drug free graduates

2. Raising awareness

3. To educate the students on the dangers of drug abuse

4. To provide support to the addicts

Objectives:

To educate students about the risks and consequences of drug abuse

To promote healthy and drug-free lifestyles among Kisii university students

To provide support for students who may be struggling with drug addiction

PHASE 1: PLANNING (MARCH - APRIL)

Task 1: Define the campaign objectives, target audience, and key messages. (Week 1

2: Conduct research on drug abuse among college and university students, including statistics, trends,
and common substances used. (Week 2-4) Task 3: Develop a detailed project plan, including campaign
activities, timeline, budget, and evaluation methods. (Week 4-6)

PHASE 2: PREPARATION (MAY - JUNE)

Task 1: Recruit a team of volunteers to help with campaign activities. (Week 1-2)

Peer-led Support Groups: One of the best ways to combat drug abuse is through peer-led support
groups. These groups provide a safe and supportive environment where students can share their
experiences, challenges, and successes in overcoming drug addiction. Students can learn from one
another and gain the support they need to stay sober.

Task 2: Develop campaign materials, including posters, flyers, brochures, and social media content.
(Week 3-4) Task 3: Identify and invite guest speakers to campus. (Week 4-6)

Placing posters that campaigns against drugs around wines and spirits in students’ residential areas like
Kisumu ndogo, Save way and Galilaya

PHASE 3: IMPLEMENTATION (JULY)

Task 1: Host guest speakers to talk about their personal experiences with drug abuse and recovery.
(Week 1-2)

Guest Speakers: Inviting experts to campus to speak about drug abuse and addiction can be an effective
way to educate students about the dangers of drug abuse. Guest speakers can share their personal
experiences or scientific research on the topic, providing valuable insights and information.
Task 2: Organize campus events, including sports tournaments, health fairs, and concerts. (Week 2-4)

Organizing tournaments especially during the weekends so that the students will be busy in other co
curriculum activities rather involving themselves in drug abuse.

Task 1: Launch the social media campaign, including regular posts, live streams, and online events.
(Week 1-4)

Social Media Campaign: Social media is a powerful tool to reach a large audience quickly. A social media
campaign can raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse, share resources for prevention and
recovery, and promote a drug-free lifestyle. The campaign can use hashtags, share testimonials, and
feature educational materials. Some examples are # Okoa comrade dhidi ya mihadarati,

#Say no to drug abuse

Campus Events: Organizing events that promote a healthy and drug-free lifestyle can also be effective.
Events such as sports tournaments, health fairs, and concerts can provide students with fun and
engaging activities that do not involve drugs. These events can also provide an opportunity to distribute
educational materials and resources for preventing and overcoming drug addiction.
