Rapunzel

In a kingdom far away lives a King, a Queen, and

their baby girl, Rapunzel.

One day, the Queen gets very sick. To help his wife,
the King visits a witch and asks her to save her.

The witch agrees and gives the King a purple magic

potion. But, in return, though, the King must give
the witch their only child. Although he does not want
to, the King agrees.

The King returns home with the potion and gives it

to the Queen who drinks it and quickly feels better.
At night, the Queen sleeps peacefully, so the King
takes their baby back to the witch without her
knowing.

Many years later, Rapunzel is all grown up. She is

very beautiful, with long, long, long golden hair. She
lives in a tower by herself and the witch visits her
every day.

Rapunzel is very lonely. She cannot leave because

there are no stairs. To get into the tower, the witch
calls to Rapunzel and says “Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let
down your hair.”

From her tower window, Rapunzel lets her hair

down. It is so long that it reaches all the way to the
ground. It is so strong that the witch can climb up it
to visit Rapunzel.

One day, a Prince walks in the woods near the tower.

He hears the witch´s voice who calls for Rapunzel.

He sees how the witch climbs the hair up into the top
window of the tower. He also sees beautiful
Rapunzel.

The Prince stands below the tower and waits for the
witch to leave. Then walks to the tower and calls
“Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair.”
Rapunzel is surprised because that is not the witch’s
voice. She looks down from her window sees a
handsome Prince.

Rapunzel lets down her hair, and the Prince climbs

up. They talk and talk and talk till sunset. Then, the
Prince returns to his castle but he comes back every
day, and soon Rapunzel and the Prince fall in love.

One day, the Prince is not careful. The witch cames

early and sees him. She spys on the Prince from a
bush and sees him enter the tower.

The witch is very angry and she sets a trap for the
Prince. When the Prince leaves, the witch takes
Rapunzel and cuts off her hair.

The next day, the Prince waits at the bottom of

Rapunzel's tower for her hair to come down, like he
always does.

Rapunzel’s hair comes down, and he climbs up. But

at the top, he does not find Rapunzel. Instead, he
sees the witch.

The Prince pulls out his sword, and they fight. As

they fight, Rapunzel is in the corner, tied up.
She pulls and pulls and pulls till she breaks a rope
and gets free.

Together Rapunzel and the Prince fight the witch.

The witch cannot win and turns herself into a bird
and flies away.

Rapunzel and the Prince leave the tower and marry.

They live happily ever after.

The End
The story is one of Aesop’s most famous and well-known fables. It is about two
animals: one a speedy hare and the other a slow tortoise.

The Tortoise and the Hare Story

In a deep forest, far, far away, lives many animals.

Two of them are very good friends. One is a tortoise,
and the other is a hare.

One day, Tortoise and Hare plays games with their

friends. Hare wants to run to join their friends but
Tortoise walks very, very slowly. “You are so slow! I
think a snail is faster than you.” says Hare.

Suddenly, Tortoise says, “I want to race you.

Everyone can see how fast I am.”
“You want to race me?” laughs Hare, “You are too
slow! If you want to race, then we can race,” says
Hare.

“Okay, we can ask our friends to set up the course,”

says Tortoise. “Good, then we will race tomorrow,”
says Hare.

That night, Tortoise goes to bed early and sleeps all

night. But Hare is so excited and can’t sleep at all.

The next morning, everyone meets by the old oak

tree. Tortoise and Hare line up on the starting line.

“Ready, set, go!” yells the animals. Hare runs off as

fast as an arrow While Tortoise slowly walks
forward, slower than a sloth.

Hare runs and runs and runs. He is so far ahead that

he can’t even see Tortoise. Now, Hare is very tired
because he did not sleep last night.

“I think I will rest here for a bit. Tortoise is too slow

to catch up,” Hare thinks.

Meanwhile, Tortoise walks and walks and walks. He

walks over hills, across streams, and under logs.
Slowly but surely, he catches up to Hare.
Tortoise sees Hare who sleep deeply. Tortoise
doesn’t stop. He keeps on walking toward the finish
line.

Later, Hare wakes up from his sleep. He sees the sun

and realizes that he slept all day! He quickly runs off,
hoping to still beat Tortoise.

Hare runs and runs and runs. He runs very quickly.

He zooms over hills, through streams, and over logs.
Finally, he sees the finish line.

But… Oh no!

Tortoise is already there. Hare sees Tortoise cross

the line. All of the animals cheer.

Tortoise wins the race! Slow and Steady Wins the

Race.

“How did you beat me?” asks Hare.

“You may be fast Hare,” says Tortoise, “But slow and

steady wins the race.

houses,” says one of the pigs and his brothers agree
with him.

The first pig, the oldest one, says, “I will make my

house out of straw because it is light.” The first pig is
very lazy.

The second pig says, “I will make it out of wood

because it is easy to find.” The second pig is also a
little lazy.

“What will you make your house out of brother?” ask

them to the third pig, the youngest one.
“I will make my house out of stone,” he answers.

“Stone!” exclaim his older brothers. “But that’s so

heavy!” says the first pig. “And that’s so hard to find!”
adds the second pig. But Little pig knows tha stones
are the strongest, so he doesn’t change his mind.

After one day, the first pig finishes his house and
starts to play. After five days, the second pig finishes
his house and joins his bother pig.

After twenty days, the third pig finishes his house

and joins his brothers.

One day, the Big Bad Wolf comes to the small forest.
He is very hungry.

The pigs are outside playing when they see the Wolf.
They quickly run inside their houses to hide.

First, the Big Bad Wolf comes up to the straw house.

“Little pig, little pig, let me in,” yells the wolf.

“No, no, no, not by the hairs on my chinny chin

chin,” replies the first pig.

“Then, I’ll huff, and I’ll puff, and I’ll blow your
house down!” replies the Wolf.

The wolf blows and blows and blows and the house
of straw falls.
The wolf chases and tries to eat the first pig. But he
is too slow and the older pig runs and hides in his
brother’s wood house.

Next, the Big Bad Wolf comes up to the wood house.

“Little pigs, little pigs, let me in,” yells the wolf.

“No, no, no, not by the hairs on our chinny chin

chin,” replies the first and second pig.

“Then, I’ll huff, and I’ll puff, and I’ll blow your
house down!” says the wolf.

“Then, I’ll huff, and I’ll puff, and I’ll blow your
house down!” says the wolf.
The wolf huffs and puffs and huffs some more. But
this time the house does not fall down.

He tries several times, but the Stone house doesn’t

move an inch. The wolf is so tired that he falls asleep.

The three pigs come out of the house and take the
opportunity. They grab the wolf and throw him into
the river where he floats away to never come back.

“Thank you so much brother! Your house of stone is

the strongest” says the first and second pig. “Will
you help us build our own?” they ask.

“Of course brothers, I will help you both,” replies the

third pig.

Jack thinks and thinks. One gold coin is enough to

buy food for seven days. But, what do five magic
beans do?
At the end, Jack chooses the five magic beans and
walks back home.

His mom is very angry at Jack. She grabs the beans

from Jack and throws them out the window.

Jack goes to bed that night hungry and sad. But, at

eight o’clock, he wakes up and looks out his window.

Outside there is a giant beanstalk. Jack wants to

explore it. He climbs up, up, up, till he reaches the
top, up above the clouds.

There Jack can see a huge castle. He looks like a

mouse beside its big doors. He worders what is
inside.

Jack finds a small crack and squeezes inside. The

room is warm and filled with treasure. He can see
piles of gold coins everywhere.

Suddenly, he sees a golden goose on golden eggs.

“With that goose, my mom and I could be rich”, he
thinks.

When Jack approaches the goose, he hears a crash

and hides with the golden bird.
A giant opens the huge door and walks in the room.
He sits down to eat a huge feast.

Jack is very scared. He doesn’t want the giant to find

The End
The Princess and the Pea Story was first written by Hans Christian Anderson in
1835. It is the story of a Queen’s test to see whether a stranger really is a princess.
Compared to many fairy tales, the Princess and the Pea is funny and fairly silly.

The Princess and the Pea

In a faraway Kingdom lives a Prince. He is looking

for a princess to marry.

Every week, he goes to a new Kingdom looking for a

Princess. But, he can never find the right one for
him.

Some are too old. Some are too young. Others are
not princesses at all.

One day, there is a big storm in the Kingdom. The

rain falls all day, and the wind howls.
As everyone is going to bed, they hear a loud knock
at the castle door. Knock! Knock! Knock! The King goes
to check the door.

He opens it and sees a girl standing in the rain. Her

hair is soaked and her clothes and shoes are soaked
too.

“Who are you? Why do you knock at my door?” asks

the King.

“I am a Princess” says the girl, “I need somewhere to

sleep tonight.” The King does not believe her because
she doesn’t look like a princess at all. But the King
lets her in anyway.

As the King brings the girl into the castle, he sees the
Queen. The Queen asks, ”Who is she?”

“I am a Princess,” says the girl, “I need somewhere to

sleep tonight.” The Queen also does not believe her.
So, she comes up with a plan.

The Queen goes into the bedroom and removes the

mattress from the bed Then, she places a single pea
underneath it and ten mattresses on top of the pea.

“Only a real Princess is sensitive enough to feel that

pea.” thinks the Queen.
The Queen goes outside the room and lets the girl in.
She says to the girl “You can sleep here tonight”.

The girl climbs up the mattresses and falls asleep.

The next morning, the King, Queen, Prince, and girl

all have breakfast.

The Queen asks the girl about her sleep. The girl
replies “I’m so tired because I feel a lump in my
mattress.”

Because of that, the Queen knows that this girl is a

real Princess. So, she invites her to stay at the castle
as long as she wants.

Over time, the Princess and the Prince fall in love

and get married.

The End
This is a fairy tale written by the Brothers Grimm in the early-1800s. It is one of the
few overtly Christmas fairy tales that we have in western culture, and it involves
many classic Christmas elements like gifts and elves.

The Elves and the Shoemaker

In a small town lives an old man and an old woman.

They are both shoemakers. They work very hard, but
they are still poor.

One day, the old man finds that he has no more

money. He only has one more piece of leather,
enough for one pair of shoes.

The old man has a worktable with needles, thread,

scissors, and a piece of leather.
At that night, he cuts out the shoes but he is too tired
to finish. So, he leaves the cut leather on his table
and goes to bed.

In the morning, he comes downstairs to finish the

shoes. However, he finds that the shoes are already
done!

The shoes are beautiful. They are better than even

the most expensive shoes.

That day, a man comes into the shop and buys the
shoes for lots of money. With that money, the old
man buys enough leather to make two more shoes.

That night, he cuts out the leather for the two shoes
and leaves them on the table. He plans on finishing
them the next morning. But, the next morning, he
finds them already done again!

The new shoes are all beautiful. They are better than
the first pair.

The old man continues to leave out leather every

night and every morning, he finds new shoes.

Soon, the old man and his wife have enough money
to live comfortably.
One night, the old man and his wife come up with a
plan. They want to see who is making the shoes for
them. So, they hide in the workshop and watch their
worktable.

At midnight, two little elves appear and begin to

make the shoes. They are small and wear green
clothes. The elves laugh and joke while they work.
Together, they make the most beautiful shoes.

The next day is Christmas Eve. The old man and his
wife decide to make gifts for the elves because they
have helped them so much! That night, they wrap
their gifts and leave them on the table. They hide in
the room and watch for the elves again.

The elves find the gifts and open them. They jump
with happiness due to the gift. They are so happy
with them!

From that day on, the old man and his wife leave
gifts every night for the elves.

Everyone live happily ever after.

The End
Cinderella is one of the oldest and most popular fairy tales ever written. Starting in
Ancient Greece, the Cinderella story has evolved and changed over the centuries.
Current versions of the story have two primary influences: the 17th-century story by
Charles Perrault and the 1950s Disney animated movie.

Cinderella

Cinderella has one stepmother and two stepsisters.

They are all very mean to her.

One day, Cinderella hears that there will be a ball for

the Prince who wants to find a wife. She is excited
and wants to go to the ball.

Her stepsisters laugh at Cinderella. They say “You

can’t be a Princess.” Her stepmom tells Cinderella,
“You can not go to the ball but you can clean the
house instead.”

Cinderella’s stepsisters and stepmother leave for

the ball.
Cinderella stays and cleans the house. She feels very
sad. Suddenly, she hears a knock on the door.

Cinderella opens the door and sees a beautiful

woman. “Who are you?” asks Cinderella. “I’m your
fairy godmother,” says the woman.

“I am here to help you go to the ball,” says her fairy

godmother. “But how?” asks Cinderella. “With
magic,” she says.

Her fairy godmother waves her wand and sings

“Bippidy, Boppity, Boo!” And with that, Cinderella’s
clothes turn into a beautiful dress. Cinderella looks
down and sees that her shoes are now glass slippers.
She looks so different. No one will recognize her at
the ball.

“But how will I go to the ball?” asks Cinderella. “With

your own carriage,” says her fairy godmother.

Her godmother waves her wand again. Outside, a

pumpkin turns into a carriage, and two mice turn
into white horses.

“Now, be quick Cinderella. The magic will end at

midnight,” warns her fairy godmother. Cinderella
gets into her carriage and the horses carry her to the
ball.
Cinderella enters the ball. She sees the Prince and
the Prince sees her. He is very handsome.

They begin to dance together and the other girls are

jealous. Cinderella and the Prince dance all night.

Cinderella is so happy. But she sees the clock. It is

almost midnight! Cinderella tells the Prince, “I must
go. Goodbye, my Prince.”

The Prince runs after her but all he sees It´s her in
the carriage away. On the steps, the Prince sees a
glass slipper. It is one of the Cinderella´s shoes!

The next day, Cinderella thinks about the ball. She

misses the Prince. Suddenly, she hears a knock at
the door. It’s the Prince!

He has her glass slipper. He wants to try the slipper

on every girl until he finds the girl that he danced
with.

First, the stepmother tries the slipper. It is too big.

Second, her stepsisters try the slipper, and it’s too
small.

Finally, Cinderella tries the slipper. It is just right.

The Prince brings Cinderella to his castle, and they

live happily ever after.

The end
The story of the boy who cried wolf is a classic tale that is meant to teach children
about the problems with lying.

The Boy Who Cried Wolf

In a small village, there lives a boy. He is a very

naughty boy. He often likes to play tricks on the
other villagers.

One day, the boy is out in the field with his sheep.
His job is to watch for the wolf who likes to eat the
village’s sheep.

If he sees the wolf, he needs to call out loudly. Then,

the villages will come and scare off the wolf.
The boy is very bored. He lays on the grass and looks
up at the clouds. He looks for clouds that look like
animals and he can see a rabbit, a cow, and a dragon.
Then, the boy sees a cloud that looks like a wolf.

Suddenly, the boy gets a very bad idea. He stands up

and yells, “Wolf! Wolf!”

All of the villagers hear the boy yelling and quickly

They stop doing their jobs and run to the field.

When they arrive, they don’t see a wolf anywhere.

“Where is the wolf?” asks one of them. “I don’t know,
he runs away,” says the boy.

The villagers are unhappy. They know that the boy

lies to them but they don´t say anything to him.

The next day, the boy is in the field with his sheep
again. He is still very bored.

He remembers yesterday’s trick and all the fun he

has. Again, the boy yells, “Wolf! Wolf!”
One more time, the villagers run to the field. And,
like yesterday, when they arrive, they don’t see a wolf
anywhere.

The boy gives the same excused and, again, the

villagers don’t believe him but don´t say a word to
the boy and return to their doings.

The next day, the boy is bored in the field again. But
then, he sees a shape in the grass. It’s big and furry
and it has sharp teeth. It´s a real wolf! The boy yells,
“Wolf! Wolf!”

The boy quickly climbs a tree to hide from the wolf.

He waits for the villagers to come. He waits and
waits and waits, but they never come.

All of the villagers hear the boy yelling but they think
“The boy lies again” and they They continue working.
They don’t trust the boy at all.

The wolf steals as many sheep as it can. When the

wolf leaves, the boy runs home. He learns a lesson
that day: Don’t lie because one day, you might need
others to trust you.
