Baidu is the leading search engine company in China and is mostly


commonly referred as 'google of China'. It is the fifth most visited site
in China. Baidu open sourced it's AI software Paddle Paddle. Main
idea behind this move is to increase the pace of innovation by relying
on many users for new ideas and features instead of just having
small and internal group of R&D. It realized that traditional proprietary
software is no longer profitable and there is great scope of growth in
open source, so Baidu decides to compete and acquire market by
adopting open-source strategy.

Baidu makes commendable profit from open sourcing. Today


PaddlePaddle powers more than 30 of Baidu's offline and online
products and services, used across variety of industries, including
finance and health care. Baidu's undertaking became the
springboard for AI innovation in China, opening doors to variety of
deep learning applications.

Fujitsu is a leading Japanese multinational information and


communication technology company. Fujitsu adopted open source
strategy because it recognized that it was critical to move from its
traditional products and services to the Internet and the cloud and
this drove it towards the OSS. It identified the opportunity in multi
cloud environment. It realized that there is lack of standard
technologies among various cloud service providers, so it created an
open-source catalogue manager, an open-source software to bridge
this gap.

Adoption of open-source strategy benefited Fujitsu in several ways. It


became the partner of choice for vendors using OCSM, and
companies such as Image Ware systems The companies partnered
to provide biometric-as-a- service and enjoyed numerous unexpected
and expected benefits.
