SPELLING BEE RULES

A Spelling Bee is a knockout competition. There are 2 rounds. We will start the competition

with the list given (round 1). In round 2 we will have challenge words (50). These are words

of daily use, as in the list, months, days of the week and of the list of irregular verbs.

RULES

• When it is the participant’s turn, the judges will say the word aloud. (there are 3 judges. One

of them will say the words).

• Words will be given in any order the judge wish.

• The participant will repeat the word, spell the word, and then finally repeat it upon

completion. It is important not to rush.

• If at any time when spelling the word, the participant gives a wrong letter, they will be asked

to sit down and will take no further part in the competition.

• A participant may ask the judge only one of these helps.

a. to use the word in a sentence (context). Example: “Can I have a sentence, please”.
b. They may also ask for the definition of the word. Can I have the definition, please?
c. its funtion. Example: Is it a verb?.

• All words in the Round 1 list will be used before any of the challenge words are used.

• If all the challenge words are used and there are still participants remaining,

they may share the title.
