Reflection Paper: IMELDA, A FILM by Ramona S. Diaz

Imelda Marcos is famous for being the wife of the late dictator Ferdinand
Marcos. The film entitles to convey the point of view of Imelda during the historical
events of the country. The starting point of her life as a classic lady to a prominent
woman in the Philippine political industry. As it was shown, she had the best of her
life having great resources of wealth and talent. However, despite this, you could see
that at times her story is something irrelevant to absorb whether is it the truth or lies
they made up to cover their family reputation.
As I oversee the film, I can picture that Imelda is a strong and independent
woman. You could see the strong determination she has that makes the people love
her at first. She knows how to speak well, not just speak but in a very intelligent way.
“Beauty is in the landscape of your heart. Do not live it there”. This is one of her
phrases from the film that makes me think that she isn’t just reflecting the beauty in
the essence of the physical aspect but through within our soul. To think that being
beautiful comes naturally not being pushed through.
She also said that “Circles of life is to paint it, shape it, build it, and let it flow
from within you”. She can easily make you inspired to live your life to the fullest.
From this, she captivated the heart of the Filipino people to love her even more. And
that’s the way I think Ferdinand Marcos Sr. make his career in politics shine through
his wife.
Philippine political stories are complicated. There are many sides you need to
hear and it is up to you to either hear it or accept it. As we all know politics is the art
or science concerned with winning and holding control over a government. Being in
this circle, you can gain the power and privilege of a human over the majority. Imelda
is the trophy wife. Marcos needs her to win the hearts of the people. Imelda brings
flourish to his drive. I can reflect that having a good image is a must to make a way
into the hearts of the Filipino people. Filipino people are known for being soft to the
people who make them feel special and greatly appreciated. Over the campaign
period, Marcos and Imelda would always sing to touch the hearts of the Filipinos.
Imelda’s work isn’t over as she became the first lady. This is one of the things
that I can say I greatly appreciate her. She helps restore back the original culture of
the Philippines. The Philippines has been colonized by a different country that almost
lost the identity of its original culture. Imelda being the first lady became the arms to
bring back the culture we first have.
Altogether, the film makes a good impression of Imelda being an independent
woman who faces the bad reputation of her family towards the Filipino people
through the years. Philippine politics is full of surprises and we can’t distinguish who
is right and that tells the truth. Politics is a good activity but it is a bit dirty to play. The
film can define politics is an art and science.
