Assessing Learning

Activity

Direction: Examine carefully the famous artwork of Anita Magsaysay-Ho. List down at least five (5)
interpretation or ideas you can make.

(The Philippines 1914)

Six senses
1. As you can see in the artwork, the first thing that catches our eyes are the five women, who
stand in for our five senses, and only then the boy playing the flute, who represents our
sixth sense, which most of us tend to underrate. We often disregard our gut instinct or sixth
sense in favor of relying more on our five senses—sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch.
2. The empowering of women is represented by this painting.
3. It represents the beauty of life.
4. Characters in this particular piece of art combine earth tones with distinct forms and angles.
that seem to harmoniously blend with the greenery stand as a representation of femininity:
serenity, beauty, strength, control, and unity.
5. It illustrates how nature is necessary for human survival. Being resourceful and able to take
advantage of life's opportunities are all that is necessary to sustain life.
Activity
Direction: Identify the subject of each famous Philippine artwork. Explain the possible meaning/s
according to your own interpretation.

The subject of the Painting is Palay and the beautiful

women. Palay is Tagalog for grain, which is symbolic of the
Philippines’ most staple crop. Maiden bears significance to
Amorsolo’s preference for beauty. Throughout his pieces
showing women, Amorsolo does not conform to a Western
standard of beauty. With the harvested rice that the girl is
holding in her arms and her lovely and contented smile in
spite of all the hard work in the farm, this image captures the
beauty of a Filipina, wearing the traditional clothing "saya," as
well as the simplicity of life that Filipinos had in that era. If
you know how to embrace your current circumstances and
choose to be content with what life has given you, then life is
beautiful no matter what or where your circumstances may be
right now. This may be the message that this artwork was
trying to express.
(Palay Maiden, Fernando Amorsolo,1920)

The subjet of the painting are humans. This work of

art depicts humanity in a disorderly manner; it is so deep that
we can hardly begin to understand it. This isn't because it's
hard to understand the picture on purpose; rather, it's
because it's hard to understand. This artwork represents
society; there are too many faces and heads to count, so we
will never know what these people are thinking or doing for
themselves, as well as what they are thinking or doing for the
society as a whole. Also we all know that every individual has
a right . In order to guarantee that each person can live a life
of dignity and one that is deserving of a human being, human
rights must be protected and preserved.
(Crisis in Humanity, Benedicto Cabrera,2017)
We all know that Duterte is the 16th president of the
Philippines, Rodrigo Roa Duterte, is a Filipino lawyer and
politician also known as Digong, Rody, and by the initials
DU30 and PRRD. He held office from 2016 to 2022.In art,
triangle represents stability and power. In the Philippines, a
triangle could mean a lot. It may symbolize liberty, equality
and fraternity. It could also represent the hierarchy in the
government. The title of Circa’s art is “Duterte in the Center
of the Triangle”, which could mean that the president has
the power to control the country. The image of the crocodile
may represent the corrupt officials that has been charged
during Duterte’s administration. The eagle may also signify
the free-spirit of the President.

“Amang Pintor” Circa,1920)
