I. Essay
1. “Art does not imitate nature, it imitates a creation, sometimes to propose an alternative world.” Explain and give
examples.

Arts does no imitate because every part and piece of an art is genuinely made creatively on purpose by the artist, the only
imitation that is happening always is the type of an art if it is drawing, painting and etc; but on how they feel about the artwork
does not imitate others which makes it genuine.

Example of art does not imitate is the paint of Leonardo Da Vinci, Mona lisa, they maybe hundredths of painting on that art
but only the original has the most affection to the artist and to us the duplicates are just for only souvenirs

2. Research for at least one local artist (writer or visual artist) and discuss about him/her and his/her artistic journey.
Moreover, get one sample of his/her work and discuss about it. (100 points)

Fernando Amorsolo (1892-1972)

Labelled the country’s first National Artist in 1972 by then President Marcos, Fernando
Amorsolo is often known as the ‘Grand Old Man of Philippine Art’. The Spanish-trained realist
developed a backlighting technique, where his colorful depictions of local people reflect the
radiance of the Philippine sun. The figures and illuminated landscapes magically glow on the
canvas. Despite his deteriorating health and failing eyesight, he remained prolific until the end,
producing up to 10 paintings a month until his death at the age of 80. Amorsolo’s creativity
defines the nation’s culture and heritage to this day.

Amorsolo painted the Philippine landscape in sunny and colorful depictions that idealized
both nature and native beauty. Using techniques of natural outdoor lighting and taking from the
Impressionists of Europe, he mastered the skill of natural lighting in his paintings, and this
trademark was later called his mastery of the “Philippine Sun.”

His works have inspired many an artist long after his death, and how a number of local cinematographers have adopted the
look that saturates his paintings in motion pictures “ the Golden sunlight and the corresponding shadows “ is proof of Amorsolo’s
genius as an artist. It can be argued that no other Philippine painter could match his ability to capture gloriously both idealized
countryside imagery and the awe-inspiring beauty of nature’s glow and luminescence.

Afternoon Meal of the Rice Workers

Afternoon meal of the rice workers by Fernando

Amorsolo is a beautiful piece. It has good combination of
colors especially the light ones. I choose this painting of him
because the story behind this painting is really the one that
is really captivating. It shows how simple but happy the life
of our great farmers was Simplicity was just so perfect of
the scene such an inspiring and heart touching piece.
everything looks so perfect and it suites to all Filipinos. It
also states here that poverty is not an excuse because we can
be happy as long as we enjoy what we are doing just like by
making our life simple and contented on what we have and
lastly by knowing our limitations and purpose in life to be
happy.
II. Essay
1. “Films have accurately depicted how life really works.” Explain. In addition, cite some films that have left major impact
in your life and the reasons behind why they are considered your “favorites”.

Films have accurately depicted how life really works, there are will be no ideas and basis of all films if it didn’t happen in
reality. The actions, happenings and setting in real life were all presented in all films but in films there is fiction and not fiction.
The meaning of fiction there is they are exceeding or taking the reality into the highest level of creativity that is impossible to
happen in real life.

General Luna
The story of General Luna is my favorite movie, it shocks my life and left major impacts of it because of its story. The story
is all about himself on how he represent the Philippines during war, but at the end he was savagely slaughtered by his own
comrades. The death of General Luna shocks me because, there I realize that there are no real comrades in this world, yourself is
your only true friend and also if they know that you are worthy and right, they dethrone you until you fall and suffer, crab
mentality for short.

2. Is there such thing as good or bad music? Why? Moreover, create a list of 20 songs or a “playlist” that you consider
worth listening or recommending to anyone.
There no bad music because all music’s are good depending on the listener’s mood, belief and taste of music, there maybe
some subliminal messages of some music’s but as long as we enjoy it then that is good as long as we won’t be tempt to do such
things that is stated on some lyrics of some songs . We can enjoy any music that we want because music make as calm and make
us forget our problems in a short time without a price. Music was also our best buddy when we are alone or not. So all music are
good

My Playlist
This playlist of mine is more on classic and OPM music, this are my type of music because it makes me feel more relax and
its so nice to vibe with tune on the classic music, it feels like we are in 80’s and 90’s era and I love OPM because it’s the best of
representing and supporting our culture music Filipinos.

Nobody yet knows who I am

By: Jose Garcia Villa

Nobody yet knows who I am,

Nor myself may;
Nor yet what I deal,
Nor yet where I lead.
But in my skull already bright,
And death in rose attire,
And in my mouth already star
And jewels firmly wrought.

And in my eyes a sweetness

Almost fierce as the sun,
And in my ears already music
Hearing the future kiss.

Yet myself knows myself not,

Is it I have forgotten?
Yet Finality is very near—
I rush, I run, I run!

The meaning of this is, It is a man who has the dream to become great and successful in life but, he cant make it into reality
because he is lost and focused only in the fantasy of life, but he is undecided on what will he be in the reality and who really he is.
