About the Course:

Organizations face many challenges and pressures, the most significant of which is survival and survival
requires constant adaptation, innovation and change. This course familiarizes about the discipline of
Organizational Development and addresses the issues, basic theories and methods associated with
organizational change and development in contemporary organizations. It contains theoretical and historical
foundations and explains the practical interventions involved in an OD process. In addition, values, ethics and
the role of the Organizational Development professional, change agent, counsellors will also be studied. It
provides an overview of how an Organizational Development specialist plans and implements interventions to
create interpersonal, group, intergroup, or organization-wide change.

Course Objective:

1. To develop an awareness and fundamental knowledge of the need for change, why organizations
change or fail to change, and how to plan for, manage and measure change
2. To understand the process of organizational change as led by an OD practitioner and change agent
3. To develop an understanding and differentiate the various structural, behavioral and comprehensive
interventions
4. To study the types of OD interventions and identify when and why they are applied
5. To understand the importance of counseling for desired change and enhancement of effective
counselling skills.

Section A

Organizational Change: Reasons for change, Organizational evolution and life cycle, Process of organizational
change, Guidelines for facilitating change, Role and skills of change agent, Internal and external change agents,
Issues in client-consultant relationship. ‘Resistance to change’ Concept, need for O.D, Changing corporate
context and organization development, Integrating OD and organization strategy, competitive advantage and
role of OD History and various stems of O.D., Values, Assumptions and beliefs in O.D., The O.D. Process.

O.D. interventions – classification, individual development, Personal effectiveness, Sensitivity training, Life and
career planning interventions, Group and team interventions, Role analysis, Process consultation, Team
building, Visioning, Appreciative inquiry, Responsibility charting. Inter-Group intervention–Organization
mirroring, Partnering, Comprehensive interventions– Future search conference, Confrontation meeting, Survey
feedback, Grid O.D., Structural Interventions, Quality and O.D.

Counselling: Introduction, Counselor’s attitude and skills in counselling, Process of counselling, Problems in
counselling- with counselor and with staff. Managing change in virtual organizations and in era of mergers &
acquisitions, Ways Artificial Intelligence is reinventing HR function

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of the course student will be able to:
