Advertising

Advertising is the process and techniques used to promote a product or service to an


intended audience. This is important as it creates awareness, encourages the target
audience to engage with the product, which generates success and income if people
are interested in the product. Media products which can be used to advertise a
product are:
● Web adverts (banners or social media)
● Print adverts (billboards or posters)
● Videos (TV adverts)
● Audio (radio adverts).

Advertising of Empire Magazine

The advert is a social media post that has been posted on the social media site
Twitter where you can create posts and view other posts on the site, as well as
comment on other people’s posts. This shows how Empire is trying to encourage
more people to play exclusive playstation games and shows that Empire publishes
more than just articles about films, but they publish things about video games as
well. This Twitter post targets the audience of gamers and people who prefer to
playstation games rather than Xbox, for example games such as The Last of Us 2
and Spider - Man Miles Morales which are both exclusive playstation games. This
post also includes the Empire Magazine logo which could attract the audience by
showing them that Empire is expanding their range of articles to write and publish
things about.

Advert 2: Video Advertisement

The advert is a video advert that was promoting the release of the 2012 DC film, The
Dark Knight Rises on both Youtube and TV. This advert targets the audience as it is
encouraging people who haven’t seen Batman films before, to watch this Batman
film so they have an idea as to what the films are about. This attracts the audience of
people who have a keen interest in DC films and who have also seen the previous
two Christian Bale Batman films that were previously released a few years before. It
appeals to the target audience as it is a fast paced live action film with dark and
mysterious music. The content of the advert is appealing to the audience as it shows
that Empire has not only written an article in the magazine about the film, they have
also written separate articles in the magazine to do with the actors in the film. The
techniques used in the advert could appeal to the audience as it shows that the
voiceover is telling people watching the advert, that you can get two exclusive
collectors issue magazines to do with the advert, that each include detailed articles
from interviews conducted with actors from the film, Christian Bale and Anne
Hathaway. The advert also includes different shots such as a close up shot of
Batman and a far away shot of Catwoman which have both been taken from different
angles, so that people watching the adverts can possibly get a better idea of what
the characters look like in the film.

Advert 3:

The advert is a web advert that was promoting the release of the film The Hobbit and
giving people a chance to read a free issue about the film. This targets the audience
by having articles published on the internet for them to look at. The content of the
magazine is highlighted and clearly states that the article is about the Hobbit film.
This appeals to the target audience as anyone who is interested in The Hobbit will
want to read the article and continue to read more articles to do with the Hobbit that
come in the future.
