HOW A HUMAN CAN BE ETHICAL AND UNETHICAL?

Humans are gifted by the capability of thinking decision making and even solving problems. We
are also taught how to follow rules and act pleasingly in front of everyone especially in accordance with
social norms. How can humans act in accordance with social norms, or they violate it?

Ethical means being in accordance with the rules or standards for right conduct or practice.
Unethical means unwilling to adhere to proper rules of conduct. Social norms are the unwritten rules of
beliefs, attitudes and behavior that are considered acceptable in a particular social group or culture.
Following social norms with proper conduct and will not harm other is being ethical, meaning social
norms is like a guide for us to be more ethical human being. People normally follow social norms inorder
to fit in in a society, it can be a positive and negative result depending on have we behave in every
situation. So, to be a human be ethical we should act accordingly to the rules and it should not harm
other people. For example, in every company or institution there are rules and regulations which are
mostly written in a handbook, like in our school UCC, in our first years we have a handbook, which we
can find the rules and regulations and the do’s and don’t while we are enrolled in the institution,
examples of this are wearing proper uniform, wearing school id inside school premises and other more.
Being a good student and following all the rules and regulation without harming other students is one of
example of being ethical. Sometimes we may forget to follow rules for some reason but if we take
responsibility for it and accepting what punishment or consequences of our action it may also
considered ethical, its because we are only human being and we make some mistakes and we should
take responsibility for it to be good and be corrected. For this example, we make mistake, and we don’t
take responsibility and we blame other people for our mistake and lead that person is being punished is
one of example of being unethical.

Social norms can be positive and negative in some ways, so we human beings are capable of
making a decision to what move we will make, what we should do and how we should do it, do it in a
proper right of conduct.
