WHAT’S MORE
1. What is the shape of the shadow?
- The reflected shadow was circular. Aristotle listed several arguments for a spherical Earth
around 340 B.C., including the positions of the North star, the shape of the Moon and
Sun, and the disappearance of ships as they sail over the horizon.

2. How is the result of the experiment related to Aristotle's arguments about the shape of the
Earth?
- Aristotle observed a lunar eclipse when the earth passed between the sun and the moon.
The shape of the earth's shadow was round. If the earth were flat, the shape of its
shadow would be much different.

3. If you use a different object, like two Rubik’s cubes instead of ping pong balls, will it cast the
same shape of shadow? Explain.
- Rubric cubes cast square shadows, whereas ping pong balls cast circles. Moving around
the earth is impossible if the earth's shape is square. Typhoon will be very different. There
will be times when we experience tremendous heat if we are at the edge of the square, as
well as sudden coldness in our daily cycle.

- In comparison to today, the climate will be unpredictable. We may evolve and become
accustomed to the earth's environment, but life will never be the same.

What would life on Earth be like if it is not a sphere?

2
- The sun where getting hottest, plant where getting dry and die so that the people enable
to find food (lack of food)
-
WHAT I HAVE LEARNED
1. The earth casts a circular shadow on the moon during a lunar eclipse.
2. The North Star has different positions depending on the location of the observer.
3. The moon and the sun are both spherical.
4. A sailing ship becomes smaller and then its hull disappears first before the sail as if it is being
enveloped by the water until it completely disappears.
5. The angle of the sun with the vertical direction at noon time during a summer solstice varies
from place to place,

WHAT I CAN DO
- ARISTOTLE because he developed the view that the good life necessitates more than
just a certain type of knowledge, and I believe he was one of the best philosophers of the
Greek period
