This study examines the factors causing child marriage in Java, Indonesia and the consequences of child marriage by interviewing 8 girls who married as children. The underlying factors found to cause child marriage are unwanted pregnancy, influence from parents and community, lack of education, and economic issues. The consequences of child marriage identified include discontinuing education, economic instability, legal issues, loss of autonomy and freedom for children, psychological problems, violence, and health issues for girls.
