Exam Tip: How to match listening extracts with sentences or headlines


Listening Exam 2 – Part 3
• Think about the possible topic of each sentence or headline.
• Predict the vocabulary and expressions related with the topic of each sentence or headline.
• Read the sentences or headlines carefully, underline any key words that may have words with
similar meaning in the listening extracts, predict similar words that may appear in the listening
extract.
• When listening to the extracts listen out for possible connections between the sentences or
headlines thinking of the words you have predicted before listening.
• Note down any key words when listening to each extract.
• Remember there are usually two sentences or headlines that you don’t need to use.

EXAM TASK
Listening Exam 2 Part 3
2.3 You are going to listen to some people talking about health, exercise
and diet. Match extracts 1–5 with sentences A–H. There are two sentences
you don’t need to use. Extract 0 is the example.
A The speaker says we should stop using lifts and escalators.
B The speaker thinks we should adopt a vegetarian diet.
C The speaker thinks we should eat small amounts of everything we like.
D The speaker thinks that the best exercise is free, and there’s no need to go to a gym.
E The speaker thinks a Mediterranean diet is the key to health.
F The speaker thinks that green tea can keep you healthy.
G The speaker gives advice about keeping our minds healthy.
H The speaker thinks that people should stop eating cheese and butter, and also cut out milk.
