Assess the view that not enough consideration is given to the green agenda.

Culture of disposables, which began with small things, has gone too far. From things
such as plastic spoons, styrofoam containers and pieces of tissues to things such as
nuclear waste and carbon emissions, show how slothful and indolent we have been. In
search of time and luxury, we have certainly committed ourselves to a greater risk of
climatic catastrophe, ignoring the green agenda. The trend of people ignoring the
natural risks, caused due to anthropogenic activities, shows inadequate concern about
the green agenda on an individual level. Firms and business practices still run on the
fact that environmental conservation is subordinate to profit generation . Even though
the green agenda refers to the political movements that promote environmental
protection and sustainable development, the government shows insincerity while taking
concrete actions against environmental calamities.

Optimists frequently point to various environmental agreements, showing them as

evidence that governments are taking actions for environmental conservation which is
often a deception. According to the records published by the United Nations Climate
Change Council, the countries must magnify the efforts to even have a small chance of
hitting their targets in the Paris agreement. This shows that many governments are
signing climate agreements for mere political capitals and soft power without paying
sufficient attention to become green which could certainly make them unable to meet
the targets that they set for themselves.

If we inspect the environmental initiatives carried out by governments of different

countries, it is seen that only countries benefiting from taking green initiatives into
account are doing so. The excessive emphasis on individual self-interest in preserving
the planet shows a lack of understanding of the true purpose of the green movement,
which is that every person has a responsibility to protect the Earth, not just for their own
benefit, but for the benefit of all. Many countries like Singapore have sufficiently
considered the green agenda in their city planning as their residents’ standard of living
can be maintained. In contrast, many other countries have put the green agenda aside
while pursuing other goals. For instance, the United States refused to sign the Basel
convention, which regulates the use of disposable plastics. As a highly developed
country, the United States has prioritized its political and economic objectives over the
green agenda. If all countries, especially developed ones like America, do not whole
heartedly participate in protecting the planet, it is unlikely that environmental efforts will
have a significant impact.
Firms play a crucial role in advancing the green agenda by reducing their carbon
footprint, using renewable energy sources, and implementing sustainable practices. By
doing so, they can reduce their impact on the environment and contribute to a more
sustainable future but the green agenda ultimately remains subordinate to the profit that
they gain. Additionally, some industries and regions face challenges in implementing
sustainable practices due to lack of access to renewable energy, insufficient
infrastructure, or regulations that do not prioritize the environment. Even though firms
think of profit incentive superior to the green agenda, many firms are integrating
environmentally friendly practices and goals into their business strategy, which can help
them attract customers and improve their reputation.

Lasty, at the individual level, attention to the green agenda is often limited to superficial
and materialistic considerations, which falls short of the necessary concrete actions
required to preserve the planet. Even though the government has the greatest potential
for promoting sustainability, relying solely on minimum efforts by individuals would not
be enough to achieve the desired results. The youth of today have to speak up about the
concerns, refuse to patronize the unstable firms, and campaign for change. Even the
smallest changes like using reusable cutleries is better for pushing the green agenda,
individuals have to go beyond that to have truly integrated the green agenda into their
lives.

Ultimately it seems that as environmental issues grow in magnitude, encompassing

more than just physical objects, profits, or individual nations, they receive less attention.
All parties involved must reconsider the influence the green agenda has on their actions
and determine if it is enough. If we approach sustainability with indifference, we do so at
our own risk.
