ACTIVITY 3. UNLOCKING OF IMPORTANT TERMS/CONCEPTS.

1. Culture
- the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded
collectively.
2. Material-Culture
- refers to the physical aspects of a society, the objects made or modified by a human.
These objects surround a people and its activities and are defined by their properties,
be they chemical, physical, or biological.
3. Non-Material Culture
- refers to the nonphysical ideas that people have about their culture, including beliefs,
values, rules, norms, morals, language, organizations, and institutions.
4. Cultural Change
- is a term used in public policy making that emphasizes the influence of cultural capital
on individual and community behavior.
5. Cultural Lag
- refers to the notion that culture takes time to catch up with technological innovations,
and the resulting social problems that are caused by this lag.
6. Social Control
- is exercised through individuals and institutions, ranging from the family, to peers, and
to organizations such as the state, religious organizations, schools, and the workplace.
7. Social Institution
- is an interrelated system of social roles and social norms, organized around the
satisfaction of an important social need or social function.
8. Social Conscience
- a sense of responsibility or concern for the problems and injustices of society.
9. Social Movement
- is a loosely organized effort by a large group of people to achieve a particular goal,
typically a social or political one.
10. Social Stratification
- means the differentiation of a given population into hierarchically superposed classes.
It is manifested in the existence of upper and lower social layers.
