One of the reasons that I hate math is because it’s a difficult subject with many formulas and
algebra. I can only learn something I enjoy having fun with such as literature. But my teacher
often encourages me to choose Math as a main subject because I was accidentally good at it
and she thinks it is also for my future perspective. Despite that I decided to follow my passion
– literature which is taught in my scheduled lessons at school. I think it is a useful subject to
develop a deeper understanding of our language and culture.

Exercise 1. Complete the word in column

Pronunciation Words

I /ˈmeɪdʒər/ (major) in business /ˈmænɪdʒmənt/ (management), an interesting /ˈsʌbdʒekt/

(subject) that helps me to develop soft skills and to pursue my future career of a
businessman, /wɪtʃ/ (which) is why I chose it in the first place.

2. What do you dislike about your major?

Well to be honest, I think the curriculum is quite messy and too complicated for 1 st year

Exercise 7. Fill in the blanks with correct forms of word

Today, a lot of teenagers find it difficult to choose between getting a job or continuing
their education after graduating from high school. But I believe that going to college or
university is the better option. Many students in Western countries accept to be
employed in physical work to pay for tuition fees. People who choose to start their
career early instead of going to university or college can have more opportunities to gain
experience for their jobs. Therefore, they can be promoted to higher positions such as
managers.

On the other hand, plenty of employers might require high academic qualifications for
some professional jobs. Employers would prefer a person who has an adequate amount
of knowledge to work efficiently with less training time.

In conclusion, students with a higher academic background are likely to be more

successful in pursuing their dream jobs.
