Oral Communication Performance Task:

The Clay Communication model

Elements of the model:

Speaker
The source of information or the one initiating the process of communication

Message
The core element in the process of
communication. This is why we communicate and what needs to be delivered to somebody else.

Receiver
The receiver is the second party or the person receiving the message.

Feedback
The Feedback is a part of the receiver's response communicated back to the sender

Additional Element:
Translation
-The way the message is translated to the receiver and how he/she will take on the message. This
can be influenced by one’s culture, feelings, knowledge, religion, self esteem, gender, past
experiences, role models and et cetera.

Example:
John: (kinekwento ang horror movie na “Midsommar”) imagination niya sa movie: colorful, sunny,
and maraming matatanda

Ehra: (hindi pa napapanood ang “Midsommar”kaya iniimagine niya na dark and scary yung setting
ng movie tapos puro teens)

Tapos iclaclarify ni John kay Ehra na colorful yung movie pero nakakatakot pa rin

What is the clay communication model and where did the idea of the come from?

As human beings, we can’t help but filter the signals we send and receive via our own subjective
lenses. The clay communication model compares communication to the throwing and catching of
two clays. Each individual who touches it or who catches it shapes it to meet their own particular
perceptions, which is why the initially sphere-shaped clay can either change shape (when
translated wrongly) or remain the same (when translated correctly).
