Te was developed and produced by the Defense Language. Institute (DI), : The course is designed for use in'a full-time resident training program consisting of six hours of instruction each day, five days a week. For maximum effectiveness the course should be taught’ by qualified instructors who are educated native spéakers of Modern Standard Arabic. Field tests of this course were conducted at DLI East * Coast Branch and DLI West Coast Brangh. A limited field test was also authorized at the University of Utah under the direction of Dr. Zaki N. Abdel-Malek. Finally, the Canadian Forces Foreign Language School was given permission to use the course experimentally. .Based on the findings of the above field, limited revisions were madé to the course. . Topics in the areas of politics, international re- lations, mores, etc., which may ‘be considered as contro versial from some points of view a@e sometimes included i language training for DLI students, since military person- nel may find themselved in positions where clear under~ standing of conversations or written material of this, nature will be essential to.theix mission. For example, an, effective training technique which commonly appears in DL} materials is the use of simulated dialog situations with students playing various "roles" in which controversial statements~-whether real or appdrent--in DLI materials is not to be constryed as representing the opinions of the writers, of the Defense Language Institute, or the’Depart- ment of Defenge. In order. that: the course“nay continue to be compatible with the objectives of the Defense Language Program, con- structive swggestions for the improvement of both form and substance of the course are solicited from students, in- + | /structors, and user agencies, : : : : : \ *All inquiries concerning these materials should be > ‘addressed to Director, Defense Language Institute, Presidio .0f Monterey, California, 93940. : “PAGE seston \. ‘The relative pronouns Magii, lati, lladiina, and Liawaatii . ‘The question” word ayy Lesson 18 . 2 Lesson 19 . adthe fixen vember of a genitive construct with the - * following noun being indefipite-in the ganitive simgular (meaning ” “which ses:2")7 GP followed by the second member of a genitive construct which is deginite, plural, and in the genitive ome (meaning "Which of the Gi" fontowod by pro nominal suffixes.
