INT. KITCHEN - MORNING

KEN 25, ravages through the cupboards. There is a dirty plate

in the sink. Next to his feet is a box and a bowl of milk. He
hears footsteps approaching the door and he trips over the
bowl, spilling the milk.

KEN
Shit.

He hides the box under the table and sprays air conditioner
all over the box and room. He grabs a newspaper and sits.

EMMA, 23 walks in, sweaty and tired.

EMMA
Stop wasting the air conditioner.

Ken continues reading. Emma pours a cup of water and sits.

EMMA (CONT'D)
What are you reading?

KEN
Have you already given up on
finding your cat?

EMMA
I would have found it with your
help.

KEN
Why would I waste my time on that?

EMMA
Then try cleaning or washing your
plate with it. Or Do I have to do
that for you?
(He looks at the spill)
Why did you pour the milk?
KEN
Your cat’s milk, your problems.

EMMA
I need to get my own place, then
this house will smell so much even
air conditioner wont help.

Emma picks a rag and cleans. When he reaches the table---

KEN
Wait, since you always help me
clean. I’ll help you find your cat.

2.

KEN (CONT'D)
The bathroom window was open and it
leads to Mr.Malevu’s compound.
Maybe his dogs are vegetarians.

Emma rashes out and Ken grabs the box as he approaches the
door, Emma walks back in. Ken stands still like a pillar.

EMMA
The bathroom window has been stuck
all week, no way it went out.

KEN
Maybe..Th...The bedroom window.

EMMA
What's in the box Ken?

KEN
Nothing, just rubbish.

EMMA
(Walking to Ken)
How about I pack that box outside
with food. He might come back.

KEN
(Shouting)
No.

EMMA
I thought you wanted to help.

KEN
Yes... But the rats will eat it.

EMMA
It will be fine.

Ken holds onto the box as Emma pulls it with all his might.

They struggle for a while till the box falls onto the floor
and the lifeless cat spills out.

KEN
(Stammering)
It..it was an accident. Believe me.

Emma places his cat back into the box and heads for the door.

EMMA
Your no brother of mine. Good luck
paying next months rent.
