Report prepared by: Fernand de Varennes Date: 8 June 2020

The new ‘virtual’ teaching format was awkward in not being particularly conducive to
interaction and exchanges. While some of students were highly engaged, others were
silent to the point when it was not obvious they were even present.

This seems reflected in the assessments with a few students not appearing to have
retained much from lectures and handing over disappointing research papers.

Overall, this may be attributable to the obvious limitations and constraints of a webinar
format without direct interactions between those involved.

However, there were a few students who were clearly interested and actively engaged
during webinars and who were proactive in asking questions and engaging in discussions.
Overall, while the webinars can be a useful pedagogical tool in some contexts, it had a
rather detrimental impact on the interactions which would occur in a physical setting, and
thus probably negatively impacted on the learning outcomes for a number of students.
