8K Super Parachute ®

8K – Product Data

Chesterton® 8K is a
stacked V-Ring set for
HYDRAULIC applications.
Unlike conventional stacked
seals, 8K’s make contact
through the center to ensure
even loading, longer sealing
life and with minimal gland
pressure. No re-adjustment
is needed after installation.
■ Flared, pressure sensitive
lip; sealing forces are
reactive to pressure.
■ Even stack load enables
faster cycling with less
friction and optimum
sealing force.
■ Delivered as split
components for ease Available Materials and Seal Sizes
of installation.
■ Available in spiral coil Materials Code S
(continuous length of seal ). 95A Super Polymer O ≤1.25 (32 )

8K – Seal Selection
Step 1 Determine Equipment Dimensions
To select an 8K seal:
■ You will need the SHIM (See Note) L3
following equipment Seals
dimensions. Top Bottom
Adapter Adapter S
■ Rod diameter = d
■ Groove diameter = D1
ØC Ød ØD1
■ Stuffing Box Depth = L3
■ Cross-section (S ) = SHIM (See Note)
( D1 – d ) ÷ 2
Notes:
Pressure chart is
based on split seals Step 2 Find the Item Number
and includes both
Top and Bottom adapters. ■ Use the cross-section and applicable Ød and ØD1,
Shims are usually required to find the item number in the 8K seal listing.
at installation to achieve ■ For diameters that are not listed, pick the next available
the correct compression larger size and check that it is not more than 20% larger
of seal set. See steps 4 - 6 than the required size. Call for details.
on page 5.5 for shim height
calculation.

Step 3 Determine Number of Seals Required based on Pressure

■ Determine the total number of seals required

( including Top and Bottom adapters ), from the chart below.

Pressure psi (BAR)
NOTE: For pressure 3000 psi (200 bar) and above we suggest the use of an anti-extrusion ring.

■ For pressures above 6,000 psi (400 bar ), call for details.
■ The minimum recommended seal set consists of a
five (5) ring set: (1) Top adapter, (3 ) Seals, (1) Bottom adapter.
