Course time and location: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:00 - 10:00 am, DEMEC 306

Objective: The objective of the course is to introduce the basic concepts of combustion science
and to apply them in solving engineering problems.

Catalog description: Mass conservation, first and second laws of thermodynamics, chemical kinetics
and reaction mechanisms, transport equations, detonations and deflagrations, laminar premixed flames,
laminar non-premixed flames, flame ignition and extinction, turbulent flames, pollutant formation and
control, combustion of liquid fuels and combustion of solid fuels.

Grading: The grades will be based on the following three activities:

• Midterm Exam: 30%, Thursday, 16th July

• Final Exam: 40%, Thursday, 10th September
• Lists of exercises: 30%
