1. How important is Operations Management to an organization? Explain.


Operations Management plays a significant role in the efficient planning, organizing,
coordinating, and managing the production of goods and services in an organization. It
involves decision making in the organization which needs to be carefully planned,
analyzed, executed, and evaluated to ensure that the operation is meeting its objectives
and targets. Conflicts in the departments of an organization may arise without effective
and efficient operations management. The components of the business including
Human Resources, Marketing, Finance/Accounting, Information Technology, Research
and Development requires the guarantee of an efficient operations management to
ensure that challenges along the way will be handled with preparations and alternatives.
Having an efficient operations management, the organization can maintain its product
quality. Maintaining a good product quality for its clients also paves the way for
customer satisfaction. In the general process, increase in revenue can be expected
when measures in the operations are properly implemented. Through the evaluation of
the organization’s operations, improvements can be made for the advantage of the
organization in the present and its future.
2. Why do ethical issues arise in many aspects of Operations Management?
In the process of the production of goods and services, ethical issues arise in many
aspects of operation management. These issues involve financial statement, worker
safety, product safety, quality, the environment, community, hiring and firing
workers, closing facilities, and workers rights. Looking at these wide arrays of
concerns, we can see that the goal of an organization’s production may affect its
customers, employees, the community and environment where it is situated. With
the conflicting interests of the organization and the actors involve, rights and welfare,
quality and standards, profit and revenue are always at stake and are giving
motivations for undertakings that might affect one another.
3. Describe the role of the Japanese in the evolution of Operations
Management.

Japanese production management (JPG) became widely recognized outside


of Japan in the early 1980s, and it has since had a considerable impact on
the subject of operations management. Small batches, cells, kanban, and
rapid set-up are examples of these well-known components. Although the
foundation of Japanese production management, which has existed for more
than three decades, appears to have become the norm, problems still exist
with regard to its present and future.

Redefining and developing the management practices, the Japanese role


highlighted the increase in productivity. It paved the way for fueled quality
revolution and “just-in-time” production.
4. How important is a strategy to Operations Department?
The purpose of the strategy to the Operations Department to is to give the operations
function a plan so that it may utilize its resources to their fullest potential. It outlines the
design and utilization of resources to support the company. This covers the availability
of facilities, their location, size, and kind, the skills and aptitudes needed by employees,
the usage of technology, any unique procedures or tools that are necessary, and the
quality assurance procedures. The company's operations strategy must be in line with
its business strategy and help it realize its long-term goals. Resource Management,
Employee Efficiency and Department Cooperation are some of the advantages and
benefits in operations management when strategy is applied on these aspects.

5. What is your idea of an effective strategy?


Effective strategy means all the activities and processes involved and required in the
operations are coordinated, well-planned, and carefully analyzed. Decisions and actions
of the organization should be strong and logical in order to ensure sustainability and
competitive edge in the performance of operations. In order for an effective and efficient
system to be achieved, an effective strategy means that the roadmap of the
organization is clear and understood by everyone. An effective strategy empowers and
guides the actors in the organization to work and move towards the common goals and
objectives of the business. Necessary improvements will be undertaken when an
effective strategy recognizes its flaws and weakness in the course of its implementation.
